Tyler Sheehan...

is a GO to play tonight against Cincinnati Elder. His collarbone is healed. It was a very quick recovery.

Rumor from Cincinnati is that Coach Brandon called Tyler and gave him an ultimatum. If he plays, BG will pull his scholarship offer.

This is a very big game for the Lancers. They have a good chance at winning some big games and making the playoffs and can do it with Sheehan playing. I really cannot see BG pulling the scholarship for any other reason than...

If Sheehan plays it is possible he will get some looks from some "bigger" schools. Therefore, he will leave BG in the dust. But rumors will be rumors. And I am very well aware that this is, in fact, a rumor.

Let AZZ know what you think.

I am going to the game tonight. I will let you know how he looks.

If we pull his schollie thats lame. We can't do that and expect recruits to be honest with us.

Apparently, they were going to pull Shane Steffy's schollie last year when some uncertainty arose about the condition of his shoulder. It's not pretty, but these things are a part of college football.

I wouldn't want my QB recruit playing so soon after a serious injury either. It's a good year for QB's in Ohio (Opelt, Stanzi and Davis are also drawing some big MAC interest). The last thing you want to do is back off on another kid because you have Sheehan committed only to see Sheehan get hurt again.

Patrick,
What useful purpose would GB have to "pull" their offer if indeed the kid plays? IF he plays and gets looks from "bigger' schools as you say, and leaves us in the dust, we wouldn't have to pull our offer...he'd just take another, right? So why would we give him REASON to do so?

I totally agree. It would be like such a lame grade school break up. You know the one where someone thinks they are going to get dumped so they hurridly break up with the other person.

I broke so many hearts.

Sadly to say, I don't think getting hurt again is motive.

Opelt is from my hometown. He is a tremendous athlete. SS for baseball, QB for football and PG for basketball since he was a sophomore. Runs Derek Kidwells spread offense at Ross. Solid player. IMO not in the class we are recruiting to play Qb here.

We'll have Turner for the next three years so if we do lose sheehan I doubt it will set us back as a program. There are plenty of QB recruits that will want to look at BG after seeing the numbers Harris and Jacobs have put up here and the nat'l attention Jacobs has received.

Does Sheehan have dreads? If not I say we pull the schollie right now.

If he did he would have those nasty white boy hippie dreads.

He is a helluva QB and I would love to see one of my fellow high school alums shine ay my college alum.

But then again it would be nice to see a schollie go to our defense. If I am not mistaken we are pretty deep at QB right now. We may even have Omar for another year. Who knows?

There's a 95% chance this "rumor" was started by a rival coach in the MAC or Big 10 who missed the boat on this kid and is trying to make Brandon look bad. Negative recruiting is a huge part of the business, and many coaches are desperate.

IIRC, we've offered Opelt as has UT and one or two other MAC schools. At 6'-2" and 180, they may be thinking of moving him to WR :o

I'd rate it as more a 93.5% change.

Apparently there will be a scout from Michigan at the game as well.

Man I hate rumors. But I love turing the fan on before the s*** starts flying.
