15. QB Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green — Jacobs doesn’t get many chances to own the college football spotlight, so Wednesday night’s sporadic effort on ESPN, arguably the worst of his career, dealt a body blow to his longshot Heisman bid. Still, his numbers, by the end of the year, and could carry him all the way to the Big Apple.
Last Week: 18-of-36 for 220 yards and 3 TDs (Boise State)
2005 Season: 75-of-130 for 1,106 yards, 13 TDs and 1 INT
Barometer: Falling

he has 2INTs, and he should have had 4 more at Boise. he is a good QB, but no way he gets invited even if we win out.

He still has 1100+ yards in 3 games and we won't play anyone as good as Boise for a couple of months. Everything on this team needs to turn around immediately. If Omar goes back to being Omar, he could put up numbers they can't ignore.

I know we are all feeling a bit deflated about this year, but 1-2 was a distinct possibility going in to the season. We initially thought we would be the next 2004 Utah. Then we thought "OK we can be like Miami 2003." That hasn't panned out. We have to aim for Tole_o 2004. Look like crap early, then pull things together and win the MAC.

At this point 2004 Bowling Green would be ono hell of an improvement.

I think Omar still has a decent chance of making the top 5. It is certainly less of a chance now that he laid an egg (by his standards) on national TV.

Right now I only see three surefire finalists. Bush, Leinart, and Young. If Omar can put up numbers like last year and have very strong showings on our TV appearances at the end of the year, he has a shot to make it into the final two spots.

Of course this is all moot if we don't improve a lot as a team and start beating some people.

Part of me thinks it may be better that the majority of the hype surrounding Omar and the team has dissolved. We always seem to play better when the spotlight is elsewhere. Maybe now we can focus on winning the MAC instead of reading our own press clippings.

I also wonder if this will effect his thoughts on staying or going at the end of the year.

Too early to tell probably, if he turns it around, then we can think about it. In the meantime, I want him focussing on turning the team around, and being a team leader

Funny story from today... I was at the Colts-Browns game and the lady I sat next to mentioned that her son went to Balls Tate (he was in the band, playing at halftime). I told her I graduated from BG, and she said she was at the game in Muncie, blah, blah, blah... about 20 minutes later, a guy walked up the aisle with a BG shirt on, I yelled "Go BG!" The lady laughed, then out of the blue said something like "that QB you guys have. Do you think he could win the Heisman?"
