Ok...I'm Tired

Alright folks...Every time we have a bad game or lose a game we "think" we should have won, we end up having two camps of fans. Those that think we suck and those that think those people that think we suck aren't real fans. I can sympathize with both sides. I was drinking the pre-season kool-aide just like the rest of you. I was ready for us to be the BCS Buster this year. I was ready to show we deserved to play with the elite teams in I-A football. But we have to face the facts. We aren't there.

Now, the thing that concerns me more than losing the a Wisconsin team that "has a young defense that we will be able to pass all over" or eeking out the win against Ball State, or being manhandled on National TV last Wednesday, is that I don't feel we are progressing. Ever since Urban showed up on campus, we have had 3 losses on the season. This year, which was supposed to be out coming out year, we already have two. With how we have played, do you feel confident about Ohio, Miami, or Toledo? Do I think the sky is falling? No...But I don't think we are improving year after year either. Now I hope I am wrong. I hope that we can run the table in the MAC and be Champs this year. And as much as everyone likes to bad-mouth Marshall, they came in and kicked everyone's asses in the conference until their last season in the MAC. That is how you get recognition. That is how you get "respect." That is how you quit having commentators on ESPN "dissing" us.

So do the people that think we are the suckiest suckers out there "Bad"? No. And are the people that think we are fantastic "better fans?" No. We talk a good game. But we have to realize we aren't there "yet." Now my concern is when WILL we be there and what do we need to get there other than win?

This is a good post, and I agree with it. We are still a work in progress, and will not beat the best MAC teams without significant improvement.

[Now, the thing that concerns me more than losing the a Wisconsin team that "has a young defense that we will be able to pass all over"]

Temple didn't cross midfield against Wisconsin and North Carolina only had 3 points against them at home and has already scored 28 against NC State today...just stating facts. I don't know how inexperienced they really are. Michigan won't score 42 points against them today, I will guarantee it.

Michigan only scored 20-----it's just a game, however. Tell that to Lloyd Carr. He should have looked at the tape of our game to see how we rang up 42 on them.

Yeah, but we don't count, though. Remember, not only are we a "mid-major," but we also use a gimick offense. Why would a powerhouse like Michigan look to us for any kind of a clue?

I think FLorida State and Washington State have both consulted with our coaches about the intracacies of the spread and Tim Beckman (I probably shouldn't have called him a dick when he left) was hired by OSU to help them learn how to defend the spread. (no, that isn't a joke)

It does happen.....

I was actually wondering about our offense style, is it really going to be considered gimmicky if Meyer can make it work at Florida, or are they gonna start giving it credit?

The ESPN announcers said yesterday the Purdue Coach Tiller had consulted Bowling Green for some offensive tips in the off season.

OSU is running an adaption of it because they got the athletes to do it. It's funny, their fans call our spread "gimmick" and their spread "effective."

I wouldnt call it effective. They run it on the 5 yard line 3 times against texas that will not work 10 times out of 10. line up under center and pound it down peoples throats.

by MACMAN
I hear you and concure. We are a mid major program, which by terms of MACMAN speak and thought equates to this. We as a mid major are interchangable with any school in any "major bcs conference" that in BCS conference plays finishes at 500.
What is the difference between the 500 BCS schools and the midmajors...not much at at all...a little depth but not much...what is the difference between the top BCS schools and the rest of us...well if you looked at the numbers...speed may be .03-.09 inn fourtys, and few lbs on the line, and some speed on the lines, and maybe the BCS guys on the line can avg higher bench press....so it is not much...but it is enough to set them apart and then add to this, that the BCS schools realy do have the best people in every spot...and an equall person to back them up, which gives them the depth and totality we lack. Its an unfair playing field becasue of the Draw those top schools have.

Our guys when 100% healthy, 100% up for a game, can play with any of those scholls...we prove that year in and year out...look at next year...we most likely will be playing against a final poll placement top 7 OSU, top 15 WI, top 25 Broncos teams. All of which have beatten us...OSU has beaten us in every meeting...and as of late that is about 5 times in 10 years or so WI beat us, the Broncos beat us. We do however measure up on our best days, and it will be on one of those days...maybe one of those seasons when beat them all...that is what the fan hopes for, seeing that spark in the players eyes, the crispness of execution on the field when the fan can see it...can see that our guys are up, and giving that best effort that we know they are capable of, and when they do we see that spark of light...the signs that say we may just win this game, I knew we could. Then there is also the reality of those who love our team but also drop that dose of reality that even when we are at our best, we statisticly should not win or that the odds of the whole team being at their best every game is not realistic.
But fans we are all the same and while we have a 1-2 1-0 record the only one that counts is the 1-0 and going on from here.
