Yes, I admit it... I'm a Badger, wondering what I'm doing on a Gowling Green board on a Sunday evening... heck, I live about 1500 miles away on top of it. I guess I'm lost.

Why am I here... I find myself (as many fans do) following a new team all year long, just because there is something very special about that team. The BG team, the fans, this board site,... the whole package you present is special!

You were on such an adrenalin rush when the season began. Now, I'm seeing some of you lose that spirit.

Don't!

Run the table, win the MAC, and show the country that you will not become background noise to the media because of a few losses, and eventually, when your great quarterback moves on.

I have watched many programs rise out of the ashes and become proud and sustainable programs... Wisconsin, Oregon, Oregon State, Fresno State to name a few... all dead programs before several events occurred.

Some of those events:

First... that special coach (Alvarez and Wisconsin; Pat Hill and Fresno State)

Second... a great team of gutsy over-achievers. (Alvarez's first class was pulled together with 2 weeks left in the recruiting season, and he still calls them his best ever! Fresno State recruits a bunch of "B" list players from California with attitude, almost none on the PAC10 lists.)

Third... that special player who makes other teams pay close attention to you. (Wisconsin and Ron Dayne; Oregon and Akili Smith & Joey Harrington; Fresno State and David Carr, etc.)

Forth and most important... the fans. (Yea, Wisconsin has a stadium that is now filled with 83,000 fans. Before Barry, 30,000 die hards occupied those seats. Fresno State-41,000; Oregon-53000+; Oregon Sate-36,000; Kansas State-50,000. These places rock! Their fans rock when they visit other places, especially the Bowl games! You don't need 100,000 fans to make it rock!) ESPN said the other day, that USC was in for a long night because of the Oregon fans. USC won, but Autzen Stadium (Ore) and Bulldog Stadium (FSU) are much louder than any stadium I ever visited in the Big-10 including Wisconsin.

I began paying attention to programs like Fresno State the year that FSU placed the biggest "physical" beating I've ever seen on Wisconsin, and 2000 crazy FSU fans made it difficult to hear Wisconsin's 79,000+ fans!

I'm sorry for being so wordy, but frankly, Bowling Green has a chance to turn their successes into a sustainable program as well. I think there are some interesting similarities.

Some of that effort is up to you, the fans!

And guess what, the Bowl game organizers love these programs! They look for the teams that bring the highest number and most energetic fans. It's what drives their local economy, walk-up attendance of the locals at the game, and overall media attention.

There are lots of future top draft choices that never made the OSU and Michigan "A" lists... establish an attitude that BG is where they want to make their name!

Sorry again for the length of my message... part of my passion for Collegiate sports is to see underdogs arise and nock off the giants.

Enjoy the rest of the season. Jacobs, Sanders, and BG overall are a joy to watch!

Thanks for stopping by. I was cheering like mad for Wisconsin against Michigan and was thrilled when you pulled it out.

We'll keep an eye on each other this season- until we meet again next fall!

That was a very nice post. Thanks.

And congratulations on beating Michigan. I suspect quite a few of us are rooting for Wisconsin to run the table. I am, anyhow.

Fire UP Falcons - part II

One last set of thoughts.

I hope you guys get your chance to play "hi State" in the next few years, While there off dotting the "i'", you'll be showing them some O's. It's because the O stands for Omar and Offense.

It reminds me of the "V" at Fresno State. Go to a FSU website and look at the green "V" on the back of their helmets. You'll also find it used by many of their forum posters. No, it does not stand there for victory. It's larger than that!

Pat Hill put a big green V on their helmets to remind his players where they come from. The San Joaquin Valley is an inland valley that runs from LA past San Francisco, about 400 miles. It is the produce capitol of the US. It's the land of the hard luck "Okies" from "Grapes of Wrath." It's blue collar all the way. The cities, the fans, the athletes of this big green valley are largely ignored when you think of California.

Pat saw an opportunity! Now they've got attitude! Bulldog Stadium only holds 40,000 but it rocks- not just the student section! Kids in this area grow up WANTING to be a Bulldog. They're not just going there after USC and UCLA have turned them down.

I could see an Ohio school doing the same. BG's got as good a chance as any of the others. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Enjoy a great season!

Signing out,.. the BG Badger.

P.S. Take every opportunity you can to support Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba. I don't khow who he is, but you've got a great forum here. It's a lot of work to sustain something like this.

Speaking of which, here is my brainstorm, and we need to get this done by the Toledo game.

We've all seen these dudes at football games, right?

We ought to do our own.

AWE (fence).

I think it works for us.

BGBadger,
Thanks for the kind, but more importantly accurate words that ALL of us need to look at and think about... especially thanks for the info about the V on the FSU helmets...I've often wondered about that, but never heard the story before...it's a terrific idea.

Let me add my congrats on the Badgers win over MEECHigan.... love to see the "Biggies" get theirs...too bad you guys don't have OSU at your place this year.... might be very interesting to see what Calhoun could do against that OSU defense. (I hope a LOT)....anyway, hope we'll see you in Cleveland next year.

I like your words of encouragement. I think that we will make a statement by winning the MAC championship this year. I mean, it's our time to do it... We need this... GO FALCONS!!!

Outstanding post BGBadger. I just hate it that it takes an opposing team's fan to get some people to realize that BG has done something very impressive over the past four years. A couple of losses don't destroy everything built up under Meyer and Brandon. In fact, we can have just as successful a season as last year, if not more successful. Last year after the NIU loss, the same things were being said about BG and things turned out okay as I recall. Just look as some of these thread titles to see what people were saying last year after the NIU game. http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB2/v ... start=3350.
