Good on Coach B for putting his foot down on the team philosophy with this move. Shades of Urban. I like it. :)

I read in the Bland that the seniors are going to decide if they are going to return.

I hope they vote to keep them off. Otherwise, it gives the appearance that the team doesn't think they played any better as a team with ot without their names.

I don't think names on a jersey have anything to do with our play. When Urban was here was had no names and the team did not go to a bowl. Brandon put names on the jersey and we won the west and we went to two bowls. Removing names will not make a player perform any better. My vote is to put the names on the jerseys so fans can know who these guys are. You shouldn't have to rely on a roster and continuously need to keep looking at it to have a clue whats going on. As a fan, that's annoying. Coach Brandon needs to worry more about schemes and game plans and quit worrying about something as trivial as a name on the back of a jersey.

Agreed. I'm just happy to see Brandon do something to help with motivation. It seems that has been an undervalued part of coaching the past few years. Good to see. We definitely looked MUCH better yesterday than earlier this year. And that is accounting for the quality of opponent.

When I was in high school we played other teams that had their names on their jerseys. But our coach didn't believe in it because you don't play for your name on your jersey, you play for the school that u are representing on your jersey...

Names on a jersey don't make a difference, but the team's attitude does. I remember several posters saying after the Boise State game that it seemed like our players were out for individual glory and not playing as a team. If this helps them play as a team, I'm all for it.

I agree, though, with your point about it being hard to tell who's who on the field at times.

Disagree...sometimes it's the small, symbolic steps you take that remind people of the importance of working together for the better of the team.

I hope the Seniors vote to keep them off....it will send a very positive message to the underclassmen about the importance of self sacrifice.

So far as the fans go...who cares? Study the roster and learn the numbers.
Besides, I come to the Doyt to watch football. If I wanted to read, I'd go to the library

If you don't know about self sacrafice by now, removing it will not change those players. The folks they want to impress (family and friends), know their number anyway and a selfish player could care less about whether or not the name is on the jersey.

It's a rallying point...a simple symbolic gesture that's designed to speak volumes. It's much less dumb than making people in the corporate world climb ropes

And yes, EVERYONE (myself included) needs to be slapped upside the head with one of life's little lessons every now and then. I think that's one of those cradle to the grave realities...

I simply believe this teaches absolutely no lessons. They are not a bunch of 5 year olds. I've seen teams do this, but it never makes a difference.
