Found this on bobcatattack.com in the recap of Solich's weekly show:

"-The Temple-BG game film has some value for Frank's staff because BG ran a different defensive alignment than what they did in the first 3 games, so Frank is preparing for 2 different schemes out of BG."

Has this been addressed elsewhere?

but whatever they did differently it seemed to have worked.

Two bad they aren't preparing for our 3rd defensive scheme. 8)

Well, that would have been my guess, but Solich said they ran a different scheme, so I have to wonder if Lovett used the Temple game as a "dry" run for some now wrinkles. I did notice a bit more blitzing and stunting that I saw against Boise & Wisky.

Whatever we may or may not have done against Temple, I know one thing is for sure. We must stop Ohio's running game and make them thrown the ball. If we can get out ahead and distance ourselves early and make Ohio play catch-up, we should be in good shape. But if we can't stop the run, it could be a long afternoon. But with that in mind, we also can't fall asleep on Ohio's passing game, because although they'd rather run, Scott Mayle (OU WR) will probably be the fastest guy on the field Saturday and can flat out fly. If we fall asleep, they can torch us over the top. GO BG!!!

Methinks Chuck Sharon, Steve Sanders and even Antonio Smith have Mayle beat in the football speed department.

OU is one dimensional, and the dimension they've got (running) isn't Wisconsin caliber and won't be enough to stay within 30 of this offense playing at home.

Urban and the staff went easy in the second half 2003 and the offense still scored 72. This has the makings of a similar outcome.

I have to say that I would be willing to give up a few big pass plays if it meant we were shutting down their running game. Maybe it's just that teams haven't tested them much, but our DBs seem to be playing inspired ball this year. Smith has had a few big picks, of course, but Jordan has been playing well, too. And I still think Perry is making his presence known quite often. He's not great - yet - but I think he's got the makings of a real playmaker out there.

That would be Mayberry and Macon. They are the fastest on the team. For Ohio, the bigger speed worry is Dion Byrum that is #2 in the country in interceptions. I am sure he is chomping at the bits to play BG with the number of times we pass the ball.

I hope they can, but I'm not counting on BG's defensive line to stop a good running team. If Ohio has any success early on, it could be a long, long afternoon. Our defensive line people (and line-backers) just don't have any speed and I sense that it would hard to coach that sort of thing. -- Let's hope BG's offense shows up like they did against Temple. That will keep us in the driver's seat.

The defensive backfield seems to be the strength of the defense this year. When you look at turnovers, each one (Jordan, Mayberry, Smith, and Perry) have all had interceptions with a couple of them with 2 already. If you look back to last year, this was not the case after only 4 games. The number of tackles is way up too, but that is in part due to the running backs making it into the backfield. At least the safeties aren't letting them get the long ones.
