No, we weren't in this weeks edition of SI on Campus, but they did announce the Best College Football Weekends. #1 Going to Tennesseee and #2 going to LSU. osu fans are going to be ticked they aren't no. 1. They finished at 11. Here's what they had to say about osu.
11. OHIO STATE
Pros: The dotting of the i in hte script ohio by the sousaphone player is the granddaddy of all football traditions. the smelly shoe (ok it didn't say smelly I added that) fits 101,568 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. ANd don't miss skull session, a pep rally featuring the band and coach jim tressel.
CON: It's Columbus
For con I would've said it's ohio state, but close enough.

Yah, I saw that the other day, but I thought that was a pretty bad reason to place them clear at #11. Can you really blame a college for where it is located? Columbus is our capital and the most centrally-located big city in Ohio.
What's worse than OSU at #11 was Michigan clear down at #24...I Hate Michigan, but i was surprised to see them ranked below schools such as Iowa, Clemson, and South Carolina...

No, but you can blame them for the poor sportsmanship and all around actions of their fans.... it is just plain bad.

I don't think Columbus is a bad town. Its not LA or some of the big-big towns. But its a nice town to shop in.
I've been at Alabama, OSU, UCLA, USC, Toledo, CMU, Miami, Michigan State, WMU, and the first three MCBs. I think the best, most focused and enjoyable experience was at Notre Dame. I've never been someplace where all the fans were as focused on their team. I've never seen a campus that is one huge living themepark for its fans. Love them or hate them, they have a good thing going.
As for the MAC. I'm not sure I've experienced a more electric event than last years Gameday weekend. From Friday until that unreal Saturday, you could not script a more perfect event.

I have met a proportionally similar number of "bad" fans from just about every school that I have been around a significant number of fans from. That includes BG & other MAC schools, they are everywhere.BGSUfanatUT wrote:thewebboy wrote:Yah, I saw that the other day, but I thought that was a pretty bad reason to place them clear at #11. I have always had great experiences tailgating at OSU, and this includes last year when I was decked out in BG gear playing Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba on repeat on the stereo. I had a lot of good conversations about the game that was coming up and didn't have any bad experiences. Even in the stands at the very top with no other BG fans around, I didn't get any bad vibes when I was yelling my butt off at the end. We did get a lot of, "Nice games, we were scared" on the way out though.
All I know is that OSU is the best pre-game experience of anywhere I've ever been. And FWIW, it far surpasses UM. Ann Arbor is a nice town, but their tailgating pales in comparison to Columbus.
Anyone notice that Oklahoma was at #6....for those who attended the game, would you rate your experience in Norman that high? I wasn't sure if we deserved that kind of rating (I figured we would be a little lower), but I am proud that OU earned that honor....and as a native Ohian, I laughed out loud during my class when I read that little blurb about Ohio State....they got what they deserved....

I agree, South Bend is a fantastic place to see a game on Saturday afternoon. As soon as you get off the interstate there are people scalping tickets, and this the day before. I haven't been there in a few years, but I imagine it hasn't changed, they still believe their team is about to win a national championship every year. ND and just a few others can still sellout their stadium in a losing season.NWLB wrote:I don't think Columbus is a bad town. Its not LA or some of the big-big towns. But its a nice town to shop in.

Yeah i'll give ND some credit that place is jumping on gameday!! But i'm going to keep this focus on teams that we have played in the past few years. My friends and i have been to Purdue, OSU and OU and I would say, and i believe my friends agree, that Purdue was far and away the best atmosphere. OU fans were awesome!! and we could have won at OSU. I remember at that Purdue game right after the kickoff i looked over to my friend and said "this is awesome"!!! I haven't felt that feeling again. It dosn't hurt that we won but i would feel the same way if we lost, that place is an awesome place to play COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!! BOILER UP!!!

I've hit the road quite a few times for these Falcons. I've seen games at Missouri, Alabama (at Legion Field), Penn State, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Ohio State, Buffalo, Miami, Kent State, Toledo and Akron.
None truly stand above all the others.
I thought Alabama had the friendliest, smartest fans, but any true sense of atmosphere is lost in Birmingham.
I think Ohio State is loudest.
I think Michigan has the best stadium.
Penn State is probably most scenic (although Michigan has a prettier campus).
Michigan might be the best experience that I've seen first hand. Nice campus, wonderful stadium, and the passion just fills Ann Arbor on game days.
I think Ohio State fans actually have more passion -- Buck talk is everywhere here in Columbus in a way that may never be possible in metro Detroit, with all the pro teams. But, on game day, Ann Arbor is just nuts in such a concentrated way that Columbus can't match... again because of its size.
Michigan fans have a certain dignity, too. Even when Ohio State wins, Michigan fans still have an air of superiority to them. They know they'll win next year.
I think that explains the passion on the Ohio State side. Buck fans have a chip on their shoulder. In a way, maybe John Cooper really did move the program forward
Some day, I'd like to see a game at Mississippi. I'm also very much looking forward to seeing next year's game at Wisconsin, too. Madison is just a *wonderful* town. I'll bet game day is amazing.
And, for those of you who haven't seen a game at Miami, I recommend it. That's the best road trip I've made in the MAC. Great campus, good fans.

I just like being around people who are enjoying where they are and what they are doing. The ND crowds seem to have a special focus that doesn't rely on how the team is doing. And they don't seem to be doing badly the last week or so. The down side is that means tickets get more costly.
