SPECIAL TEAMS ARE KILLING BG

1. Stoopid idea for a trick play on the opening kickoff. We don't need to resort to that stuff to beat OU. BRANDON'S FAULT
2. Blocked punt #1. POOR PLAYER EXECUTION for not blocking AND BRANDON for using a punt formation that puts 4 foot gaps between the linemen.
3. Missed field goal. POOR PLAYER EXECUTION.
4. Blocked punt #2. I assume that Brandon told Fry to do one of those punts where he runs to his left then boots a squib kick. BRANDON'S FAULT.
Kick returned for TD.
5. Second half kickoff kicked out of bounds. POOR PLAYER EXECUTION AND BRANDON's FAULT for calling the play.
Bottom line is that special teams are killing us. And I am STILL not forgetting that BG does not have an underclassman on the roster who is a kicker.

Can't argue there!
ST's must improve dramatically.

Can't argue that there needs to be improvement, but can I at least argue that we don't need 45 "special teams sucks" threads?

That may have been the worst display of special teams I have ever seen. Seriously. From the two blocked punts to the two bothced kickoffs to the long kickoff returns for OU to the missed field goal on a short attempt. It was as poor as it could get. You do that in a game against a better team - you will lose, period. I thought we got these kinks out of our system weeks ago, it was very alarming to see this happen in mid-October. By the way, can anyone answer for me - who is our special teams coach?????

I think Brandon and the coaching staff have allowed our hi-potent offense to get into their heads. They think we don't need a strong kicking game, because we are going to bludgeon everyone to death. We score touchdowns at such an efficient rate in the red zone so we don't need a top knotch field goal kicker. We don't have many punting situtations, plus we can score from anywhere on the field, so we don't need a booming punter. To hell with field position.
Now, I don't think they are totally ignoring special teams, but I do think this mentality has sunk into their recruiting strategy. We obviously have ignored this area in recruiting the last several years. I have feeling that will all change after this year.

To steal someone's phrase ...
For the love of Doyt Perry!
Special teams are killing BG?
Special teams are killing BG?
Special teams are killing BG?
Feeling a little hyperbolic today? They are NOT killing BG. They are an area of concern, an area that I believe can and will be corrected quickly before it does, in fact, kill us.

Maybe it's time to go watch that Upson kids' video clip again from Rivals.com. Got to love how a Georgia kid lists BG as a high-interest school!!

There is a place-kicker at Oregon Clay (near East Toledo) who can kick a 65 yard field goal. His last name is Guy, but I don't see him on Scout.com anywhere and I don't know what grade he is in.
And to echo 87's comments...special teams has not cost us anything yet. And at least this an area we can improve upon and we know we can improve upon it which is all that matters.
And I don't see anyone complaining about mixed extra points anymore!

I'll say it again, our special teams have been the kind of "special" that rides the short bus to school

I believe Coach Bowers is in charge of the ST's. There isn't someone listed as thee ST coach on the official site.
