game thoughts
The good news is that they won and the defense stepped up when it needed too. To me today the offense never really got going. Omar was throwing the ball high a lot of the day and missed some throws he usually makes. I also thought the play calling was very conservative. For many plays Omar lined up under center with one back behind him and every play in this formation was a run. The play calling needs to be a little more thought out. Against good teams, they will figure out that we run every time out of a certain formation and they will stack the line. The coaches may want to throw a passing play out of this formation every now and then to keep the defense honest. BJ Lane ran the ball very well today. A win is a win and we are still in first in the MAC east but we have to make some changes in our offensive play calling. On the bright side the pass defense looked very good. The D-line was getting a lot of pressure on the QB all day, and the DB's looked good. UB tried going deep a lot and I don't think they hit any of the passes. Antonio Smith looked good in pass coverage all day. Lets see a big win next week agaist Western!

perfect recap.
The offense was subpar. The defense was solid. The special teams? Uh well....BJ Lane rocked yesterday, 141 yards and 3 td's. Bobby Thomas did well in relief. Brandon Mack could turn out to be one heck of a player. The D played a good game and came up with huge plays. UB only burned us once deep. Our secondary is really coming together. Good for the D to pick up the slack for the Offense. BG just never looked sharp but since we were able to run the ball, that worked. But even with a subpar performance, BG had almost 400 yrds offense against the 3rd best D in the MAC.
BG had only 2 penalties for 10 yards...28 for the year which is great. 4 sacks, UB played well and they have some talent. I'll take a 3 TD MAC road win any day of the week, no matter who the opponent is. UB is a dangerous team cuz they have nothing to lose. They played hard.
Maybe they'll beat UT this....nah.
I thought the team looked a bit tired....it's the grinding part of the season. Staying mentally and phycially focused is tough. We've played 6 games, 4 on the road. Places like Wisconsin, Idaho, Indiana, New York. That's a lot of travel.
Now we get 3 of the last 5 at home and road trips in state to Kent and Miami. We don't have to leave Ohio again this regular season.
Just take them one at a time and in a few weeks we'll be playing for the MAC title...the prize. BG has a bulls eye on them and teams are giving their best shots....the way it should be.
The Freaks had a fun trip, got to see the Falls and a BG win. Good times! Buffalo Alumni Chapter tent was fun and it was great seeing Lord Byron.
We'll be back in 2007!
BEAT WESTERN MICHIGAN!!

Were you one of the three band members in the tent? It was cool to see you make the trip! Yes, that screech is quite ear piercing at times.FliccGirl wrote:Oh, btw, I highly enjoyed hearing Jake's famous falcon screech which I had heard so much about.

Good point. Remember, too, that Brandon says the team has been doing a lot of hitting during practice since the Boise State game. Most teams stay away from that mid-season to help keep the guys fresh. It's a calculated risk and I'm hoping Saturday was an abberation.
Glad you & the family had a good, safe trip!

Thanks for the halftime update. I was getting some good scores on the Iowa scoreboard but for some reason they weren't updating our game!
Can't wait for another home game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I didn't get a call to you with the final. I acutually couldn't breathe until we went up 21-7...I was nervous but the Falcons did what they had to do to get the win.
Looking forward to a great time this Sat! See you and Betsy there!
