Nice showing of BG fans today

Post by BGSU33 »

I know there was a very small crowd today at Buffalo, but there was a nice showing of BG fans out there today. I'd say half of the East side of the stands was wearing orange. Thanks to all of you that came out. Now let's pack the Doyt next week now that the students are back.
GO BG!!!

I agree, 33. I was very pleased to see so many BG fans.

It was also good to finally get the bad taste out of my mouth that had been there since our last trip to UB in 2000.

Excuse me that was parents of the players...

And for a recap of the game given all the comments on the board probably based on listening to the game via radio, or gametracker...yes the passing was off but I do have to say that the wind was a pretty big factor...it was BG-like. I think that may have forced a higher probability short passing game and run orientation which did the job, just not in NCAA stat mongering fashion. A couple of double digit runs got ripped off against the D, but then again they stopped a crucial 4th and inches at the 2....good sign of improving.

It's now officially Western week

"You can't say it wasn't a factor, but it's not excusable," Jacobs said. "We play in Bowling Green, we play in the wind all the time."

Personally, looking at the season numbers, I think he held back on purpose. He's now sitting at 2,000 yards even, and 20 TD's. It was the poetic side of Omar coming through today.

6,436? How many of those were BG fans?

There is going to be a point where they will seriously have to consider stepping down from D-1A.

Let's not go there ... the last thing the MAC needs is schools stumbling down to I-AA.

Glad to hear the BG faithful showed up in support of the Falcons.

Since 2002 the Bulls have 4 wins and 37 losses. They got smoked by Lehigh and Colgate.

They don't belong in the MAC. I'm sorry. I wish they were not so bad. I wish they drew more than 6,500 for a game on a beautiful fall day. I wish them the best of luck.

I'm sick of seeing them on the Bottom 10.

It is kind of frustrating when you want your school and conference to get some national attention.
however, i would rather see all of the teams excel in the next few years and bring the MAC to the top of everyone's list.

The game that stuck out to me in that season:

Miami 7 14 10 14 - 45
Bowling Green 0 3 14 14 - 31
MI - Travis Prentice 4 run (Andy Brumbergs kick), 9:27, 1st qtr.
BG - Jason Strasser 32 field goal, 3:53, 2nd qtr.
MI - Prentice 29 pass from Mike Bath (Brumbergs kick), 2:03, 2nd qtr.
MI - Trevor Gaylor 8 pass from Bath (Brumbergs kick), 0:27, 2nd qtr.
BG - Robert Redd 30 pass from Andy Sahm (Strasser kick), 13:04, 3rd qtr.
MI - Gaylor 62 pass from Bath (Brumbergs kick), 12:16, 3rd qtr.
BG - Godfrey Lewis 1 run (Strasser kick), 5:28, 3rd qtr.
MI - Brumbergs 33 field goal, 1:32, 3rd qtr.
MI - Nate Sexton 17 pass from Bath (Brumbergs kick), 14:55, 4th qtr.
MI - Prentice 53 run (Brumbergs kick), 10:41, 4th qtr.
BG - Steve Holmes 2 run (Strasser kick), 5:27, 4th qtr.
BG - Andy Sahm 21 run (Strasser kick), 1:16, 4th qtr.
Attendance - 10,298

It was homecoming, and I'm pretty sure that 8 in the attendance figure was a typo. If there were 5,000 people in the stadium that day I'll eat a bug.

First of all, the number of BG fans at the game Saturday was nice to see. Good to see Freak again, and nice to meet Metz and Swoop. The others that were there, sorry I didn't get to talk to you.

Thanks to the Buffalo alums for putting on a nice spread. It's a great thing and a great tradition to start now that we're back in the East.

Second, everyone has down years. Buffalo has taken some time getting things going in football, but that's not the only sport the MAC competes in.

Didn't they bring hundreds of fans to the Gund last year for the hoops tourney? Aren't they successful in soccer?

Bottom line, Buffalo is one of the premier public universities in NY State. Having them in the conference is a plus from a both an academic and visibility standpoint.

Buffalo bought several thousand to the Gund last year. Key point is they had a good team! Should have gotten a NCAA bid. When they get a 500 or above team they will out draw BG! Question is when will they get a 500 team? It took the basketball some time, if you remember they were bottom feeders in the MAC for several years.

As Lord Byron points out, there is much more to a University than the school's football team and attendance. Buffalo is one of the largest schools in the MAC. It is one of the top ranked research-intensive public universities. They have professional schools in medicine, dentistry, phramacy, law, and engineering. It's New York's largest public univeristy. Their basketball team was in the finals of the MAC tournament this past year and Their men's soccer team is ranked 21st in the nation, as well.

Just because the football team hasn't lived up to expectations, it is no reason to be calling for them to be dismissed from the MAC. UB is an overall credit to the MAC.

If Falcon 52 is putting down the Univ of Buffalo then isn't that an indictment of our entire educational system

Well I for one am not going to stand here while you bad mouth the United States of America.

OK...now seriously. Buffalo is better than their record. When the score was still tight in the second half theey pulled there "horse" (said like Keith Jackson) runningback out when they were 4th and goal or 4th and inches on the 2...they picked off Omar...twice...I don't belive anyone has ever done that. There secondary for the most part played pretty tight. Look for them to have a better record, and upset somebody in the future.

As far as anybody getting demoted to Div 1AA start with Temple.
