This is why I suck (or why I used to)

I need to confess something now that's bothered me for some time. BGfanatUT has given me the courage to do so.

I grew up as a fan of the UT Rockets. I lived accross the park from the school over by Toledo Hospital. I coluld hear the cannon go off after every TD. I rooted for them through the last of the Ealey years, through Gene Swick and beyond. I continued to root for them as a student at BG.

Yes, you read that correctly, I rooted for UT when I was a student at BG.

This disgusting, traitorous activity occured between the years 1979 to 1982. I was a blue and gold following moron even when I had been welcomed into the very bosom of the BG community.

What brought me to my senses? I actually WENT to UT for awhile. I dropped out of BG and attened UT in the winter and spring of 1983.
God, what an insufferable confederacy of dunces. That experience made me finally appreciate the greatness of our school and athletic programs.

I hightailed it back to BG in the fall of 1983 and became the kind of fan that BGSU deserves. Rabid, loyal and completely hostile towards anything from Toledo. (Unless it's the curvy blonde that married me I'll ALWAYS make an exception for curvy blondes).

Thank you for allowing me to admit my past transgressions. If you want me to leave the board, I will. If you want me to never show my face around your tailgating, I'll understand. If you want me to stop going to games, kiss my ass, I'm drawing the line.

Anyway, thank you again for your patience and understanding. This was very painful for me to own up to. I only wish had been something easy and more acceptable like admitting I was gay or something like that Govenor did.

Again thank you and perhaps, goodbye.....

All that matters is that you learned your lesson and your loyalties lie here now. If I grew up rooting for UT I would probably have a hard time not doing so, until given a reason.

Flipper, you are here to stay...PERIOD!! We forgive you and applaud your courage for speaking up and confessing your horrific past. Remember that we are made stronger by our most trying experiences in life!!

Besides, who would make me laugh, on a near daily basis when I read this board, if you left???? Your UNIQUE brand of humor is always a delight to read, especially when others here are taking themselves much too seriously!!!

Flipper..YOU ROCK, BABY!!! :supz: :partyman:

I have a confession to make myself....I went to UT as well. I know, big mistake. My experience there was less than wonderful, but I did get into a BG game for free while I was there with my spRocket Card. lol I did not graduate from there.

I was raised as a Falcon....not really sure when my father started taking me to football and hockey games, but the earliest games I actually remember were when Moe and York were still around.

People ask me at work all the time if I went to BG because they see all the BG stuff up in my office and they seem quite confused when I say no, but when they ask where I went, my most common response is to say I didn't go at all...and honestly, that is what it feels like.

My high school colors were blue and gold so naturally my first school instincts were Michigan and UT. Thankfully my dad went to UT and never let me get close to the school. When my brother attended BG, I quickly realized that brown and orange is what I needed to be and that was that.

Flipper, some of us may have needed a little guidance to get to BG, but the fact of the matter is that we are dedicated to the right school now. Have no shame of your past because it has brought you to BG and there is no reason to argue that! Always remember... No matter what happens, Toledo still sucks!

I...I don't know what to say. I'm just glad I could help. *sniff* We all make mistakes while we are younger (look at me talking like I'm not a young'an still). They are right, all that matters is where you are now. Heck, I think my parents even gave me an osu knit hat when I was too little to know any better.... although if I remember right, I ripped it up eventually...while I was still too young to know any better.(or maybe it was just foreshadowing?)

I'm in agreement that you must stay though. You're humor would be greatly missed.

On another note, what is with everyone being a veteran of UT now? Was it the thing to do? Go to UT for a little bit just to make sure it sucks there? What's next? Doyt Perry is a UT allum????

Flip,
How is the therapy going these days?

Since my whole family attended BG, I was a pretty sure bet to be a Falcon anyway.

Great to have ya in the Nest!! You are a brave man admitting what you had to go thru. No doubt in my mind what team ya back!

I have a confession too. I was accepted to both UT and OSU. But I told them that they both sucked and packed my bags for BG. (Only because my sister told me BG is better).

Flip,
Have you (and some of the other "penitants") considered writing Dr. Phil? He might be interested in a whole show of , "WHY I LEFT THE ROCKETS AND BECAME A FALCON AGAIN!"

Flip-

As long as we are admiting sins here, I have another one.....

When I first got up to UT for school I decided(along with some words from my dad) that I should try to liek my own school. After all, it will be my alma matter one day. (note: my dad is also a falcon fan, so dont worry. Im a 3rd generation townie) SO I tried to work UT into my list at #2...after BG. Nope, can't do it. The first tiem I was at a UT game and UT scored, and i cheered, I felt like I needed to go to church, it was just plain akward. By the end of the game I was actually PO'd that UT won the game. Not only that but I would soon find out how stupid the fans are up there. They are all osu fans as well, and dumb as a pile of rocks. They think every play is just planned to perfection, and never do they get 'lucky' thats jsut BS they say. I say "do you watch the game? a ball the bounces off the ground into a DB's arms is NOT an INT. It was a bad call, and you benefited, its not bad to admit, it makes you sound smarter in fact. Nope, they wont budge.

They are hypocrit fans also. you know the ones, where if you bring up past games of ownig them the respnse is "yeah, but what abotu last year?" but then they will use the same history to rip the falcons. I cant stand that.

Now b4 you start, yes we have fans liek this too, every team does. Just in my experiences thus far, UT has the most.

Heh, thats pretty good stuff there Flipper. An all this time I thought your screen name originated from your love of the show, now it turns out you were just describing your persona, you are a flip flopper. (gee, I think we all know who you'll be voting for) LOL. "I was a Rocket fan, before I wasn't a Rocket fan". Believe me my good man, no one in Rocket country is mourning for the loss of Flipper as a Rocket fan. I would rather all the UT bandwagon fans end up in BG anyways, a just sentence for the lie that you are.

You all may now go back to obsessing over Toledo, a team you all claim to despise but can't seem to quit talking about.(right Nate)
