Brandon.....

I want him gone or at the very least demoted to OC. I've been as patient as possible for as long as possible. He's not head coaching material. I should qualify that with a "yet" but I'm not willing to do that right now.

My confidence in him has been fading since the Toledo game last year. The cincher? A double reverse on fourth down to get a measly two yards. The folks in the chat room with me can say how I had lost my mind at that point.

Poor decisions.

Poor recruiting.

Poor clock management.

Poor leadership of the team and coaches.

Poor results.

He's a great guy and good offensive mind. But he is not what this team needs. I know his record speaking in contrary to what I'm seeeing, but I'm viewing a recent downward trend. It's a trend which needs to be reversed in a hurry.

Discuss.

To those of you in the chat room, I have a glass of wine, 5 jello shots, and 2 other mixed drinks in me. The fudge was a hit and my wife won "sexiest costume." I actually feel pretty good considering...........

You're a lucky man.

You won't see any move made with Brandon until his contract expires.

yes Brandon has some problems. First FIRE the D coord. I dont care if it is his first year. He is bad. Second, call plays that will get you the first down. I dont understand at the end that the routes were not past the first down marker. Horrible play calling. Also a QB sneak was called on 3rd and 1. That play is suppose to be for 4th down situations. Turner needs work but one player should not make or break the team. This shows that without Omar, Brandon cannot get the job done.

How clueless can he be? Did he even see this game? The defense held Akron to 17 pts. and no, I am not counting the last touchdown. We have never beat a team by scoring 14 pts. and I don't know why he thought that was gonna happen this time. Don't blame this one on the defense. Blame in it on the inability of the coaching staff to call in decent plays. Blame it on not being smart enough to throw the ball down the field to the best receivers in this conference and two of the best in the country. Blame this game on calling a running play on a 4th down play of the deciding drive of the game. He actually thinks we lost a game because we didn't create turnovers. Since when is the game plan to go out and win a game based on getting turnovers? What...did he prepare all week on "let's get turnovers"? Forget preparing an actual offense. Did he expect Akron to just give us a gift? Play the game in a manner to go out and win and quit babysitting the QB. He's been in the system for 2 years, so let him throw down the field. Funny thing is that Western didn't seem to have a problem with a "true" Freshman throwing down the field.

""We didn't create enough turnovers and our defense didn't get us off the field a couple times and that made it difficult.

I actaully agree with him on that...look at the third qtr. Akron has two looooong drives for TD's and they control the ball for 10 minutes. The defense took the third qtr off and that cost us the ball game as much as either of the offensive turnovers in the red zone.

Listening to Brandon's post game comments, you get the sense that he knows he's screwed this year. He might just as well talk about the wings at Fricker's as getting this team to buckle down this year....you're coming up on the most difficult portion of your conference slate at the end of the season and you're still hoping the team will play better fundamentally? It's over...you may as well start planning the golf outing now.

National rankings and a couple of bowl wins are great achievements and Brandon ought to be proud of them. He built a program that's capable of contending in the MAC every year and he ought to be proud of that.

He's also watched that team get complacent, careless and lazy...his reaction to that situation will define his tenure here, just as Gary Blackney's post 1994 run defined his.

Regardless of the 3rd, we scored a lousy 14 points and we have never won a game with 2 touchdowns in his tenure. This staff settled for trying to win a game based on playing to not lose and never went out there and took control. Heck, they never even ran plays to attempt to take control. As far as what was built...I believe he was fortunate enough to pick up something already built and now he is struggling to maintain it. Urban left them in good shape and now we are starting to see the results of Brandon's work.

Look...the point I'm trying to make is you can't just blame the offense, you can't just blame the defense and you can't just blame the special teams, they all had breakdowns in the game that you could argue were crucial to the team's failure.

Re Urban Meyer....he was here for two years. He had one full year of recruiting and two partial years....it's fair to say that he laid a strong foundation (and Brandon was right there as asst head coach and OC) but it is not fair to say that he built the program while Brandon has just coasted. You don't get the record Brandon had after two years here from coasting.

You get what you see this year by coasting.

Look...(ain't that how you put it when someone disagrees with your logic)...Anyway, I never said Brandon coasted, but some believe he is a great OC, but not the best head coach. Being a head coach is more than Xs and Os. I even believe he may have one of the best offensive minds in the business, but my belief is not there on head coaching. I believe he could be a great OC at any college in the nation. As a head coach, if he turns this thing around and wins some tough games, wins through adversity, wins by making adjustments through the course of the game, wins by motivating and striking a spark in the team when everything looks bleak, I may just change my mind, but at this point, I am still waiting.

Look...on this point we more or less agree, the jury is out on Gregg Brandon as a head coach. In his first tow years, the team did win some games under challenging circumstances by making some in game adjustments and playing with emotioin and urgency. That has disappeared this year and he needs to get it back or he'll be regarded as another guy who is a great coordinator, but not a good head coach.

Actually I don't think Greg B. is involved in the play calling that much...it is coming from the press box and gets signalled in by the other coaches, and those coaches were most involved in the sideline discussion during the last timeout they called while on offense.

At the end of yesterday it did look like some disagreement with the patterns being called because Sharon and Sanders were pretty vocal...and I'll take a guess that they were also signalling back to the sidelines the type of route that they would have preferred...and quite frankly I think by now these 2 guys are fairly confident of what can and can not get accomplished out there.

I don't think they succeeded though...that final pass out in the flat was a real gem of a call. I even wanted to leave then

From the 2003 OSU game on my confidence in this coaching staff has slowly been eroding. They showed a propensity in that game to not have the killer instinct that you want, and it has continued since then.

I know that it's en vogue to say that he won with Urban's (or Blackney's) players, but that's not the issue. Urban won with Blackney's players as well. The thing is that Urban brought those guys a new attitude and a new way to play the game. Urban coached teams were top notch fundamentally and they played with a passion. In Brandon's first couple seasons that same attitude carried over, but it doesn't appear as though the current staff did anything to proliferate. As these guys get further removed from the Urban Meyer regime, and more players are added that weren't here at all, they get further and further away from the attitude that they need to play this game at its highest level.

I thought this was an interesting trivia question.

The last time Bowling Green won by scoring 14 points or less was on Sept. 21, 1996. The Falcons beat Miami, 14-10.

It would be interesting to read the contract, though.

Is his job title guaranteed? Or is it just the money that's guaranteed?

Good question. Can he coach golf, ala Denny Stolz?
