Is recruiting completely worthless to rank?

Just curious wha people think. I was looking at our roster. Ed Hood was noted as being a great recruit and everyone was happy he was put on D. Now 2 true freshman play over him one who had his redshirt peeled but rarely plays in Kenny Lewis.
Anthony Turner was drooled over but looks average, could have potential but doesn't have the Omar Jacobs (could this guy be even better than our all Mac Qb Josh Haris) vibe. ANd don't get me wrong it is hard to compare him to Jacobs but All recruits are drooled over for their potential, he seems to not be living up to the hype (IMO).

If you think Anthony Turner looks AVERAGE, you have not seen too many QB's!! Give him some time to get used to the college game. He has played a total of one and a half games.

Remember in 2003 when Omar looked pretty "average" getting mop-up time at QB, and how worried everyone was for the following year because nobody had a chance to really see what he was capable of?
I think we have yet to see what Anthony Turner can really do.

1st you say if you think he looks average you are wrong. THen you say he will get better so????/
Omar during warmups, before he even played a down, had fans drooling and literally saying this guy could be better than Harris......

Ridiculous Turner comparisons aside, yes -- recruiting information is worthless at the 2-3 star level. The top 100-200 guys in the country we have solid information on but past that it's all about finding guys to fit your system.

I don't understadn this post.
I can think that yes, he looks average.
And I can also think that he will be better down the road. These 2 opinions are not mutually exclusive, not even close.

Even with the (supposedly) top guys, recruiting rankings are of only limited worth. Don't get me wrong, if a team is getting four and five star recruits on a consistent basis, they are going to do well. That said (or, that written, I guess), the recruiting "experts" miss the boat on many recruits. We can point to Jacobs being a two star recruit, or, my favorite example, A.J. Hawk being only a three star recruit whereas Mike D'Andrea was supposed to be the second coming. How did that work out?

I agree with that....it's why I let others get all the recruiting info. Heck, I don't know what to believe!
And you never really know until the kids get out on the field at this level.
It is all based on opinion.

I guess the question is: Average by what standard? All D-1A qbs? D-1A qbs with limited experience?

I think he means average compared to the last two guys that played QB here. I think we, as fans, have become a little spoiled by the tremendous quarterbacks that have led us the past few years. AT looks average when sat down next to Omar, but I think he's done just fine considering the situation.
I understand what you mean fitch, but his play has looked good for a freshman to me. I also agree with you that he will improve tremendously from this year to next and beyond. Writing off AT at this point is ludicrous and a disservice to him and the team. Not saying you've done that, but some have (*cough* Falconboy *cough*).
The Falcons have a lot of things to worry about going forward. Quarterback play for the next 3 years, IMO, is not one of them.

The ratings are really poor, IMO. A Big Ten school shows interest in a player, and they add a star--same player! Remember what you are trying to do: project how a 17-year old will perform, against completely different competition, in as much as four years. You could know everything about a young man, his background, his makeup, and see every play in practice and games, and its still a long shot.
Plus the coaches are supposed to coach them when they get here.
One last thing--AT will be all-MAC before he graduates.

I don't think Turner has been average. But given his natural abilities, I can see that he has the opportunity to improve. He's been good (for a freshman) but he could be great.

Good question. I would say average in that I just don't see anything that tells me he is going to be in the same fraternity of great BG Qbs that we just had. A solid, stable starter, most likely. An All MAC Qb, I have not seen it...yet

How can he ever be all MAC if that Western Mich QB wins all MAC every season for the next 4 years

You do realize he is a freshman, correct?
