Wow! They finally put up a good performance (against Buffalo) and they think they're world-beaters. We'll see in 9 days.

They've shown more consistancy than BG has.

Let them crow. Interesting how some fans forget their motto, eh?

Exactly. Their view is not unreasonable...if we bring the defense we brought many times this year, we're in trouble. The question is, will we or can we bring an A game. That's why they play the game.

Umm... not to point out the obvious, but lets go through this game by game shall we?

Yards and points given up by BG:

Wisconsin: 504, 56
Ball State: 454, 31
Boise: 546, 48
Temple: 263, 7
OU: 239, 14
Buffalo: 198, 7
Western: 471, 45
Akron: 358, 24
Kent: 247, 14

Well, take a look at this list, and tell me one good team on here that didn't move the ball against us at will. By that standard, I'd say that the OU game was our best defensive effort all year. We've only held one team under 200 yards (Buffalo), and given up over 400 to 4 teams (UW, BSU, Boise, WMU). I'm sorry, but if I were looking at this from Miami's perspective, I'd probably be gloating too.

The same thing with Miami's schedule:

OSU 382, 34
CMU 569, 38
Kent 369, 10
UC 314, 16
NIU 516, 38
Akron 377, 23
EMU 386, 23
Temple 195, 14
Buffalo 222, 13

Average yards per game given up: BG 364.44, Miami 370.00
Average points per game given up: BG 27.33, Miami 23.22

So name one good offense that Miami has slowed down. Anybody? I realize that Nande was hurt for several games and may have missed the Central and NIU games, but this defense hasn't exactly been lights out either. They have some extremely talented players in Johnson, Nande, and Hunter, but they haven't put together a great defensive effort this season either.

At least we played a tougher OOC schedule than they did this year, so the Boise game sticks out like a sore thumb.

The message I get from the BG numbers is that we've become progressively better giving up yards minus the WMU collapse.

touche.

Well, lets take this one step further and compare our respective defensive performances agains our four common opponents.

Yards and points given up

BG-Temple: 263, 7 Miami-Temple 195, 14
Buffalo: 198, 7 Miami-Buffalo 222, 13
Akron: 358, 24 Miami-Akron 377, 23
Kent: 247, 14 Miami-Kent 369, 10

Looking at it that way, we've done better yardage-wise in every game but one. As for points allowed, its a wash. Hey, maybe we have more hope than we thought.

Aren't statistics great? Twist them enough, and you can get them to prove almost anything that you want, and it still doesn't matter at all until you play the game.

Well with all the trouble we had putting Buffalo away , I'm not surprised Miami fans are confident. In fact any team should be pretty confident against our d until it proves otherwise.

Now Sat. we definitly looked better but then again it was an 0-9 Kent, so alot that does for really knowing if your D is really better or not.

Hey, c'mon, Kent is 1-8! They managed to beat SE Missouri State! Give us some credit!

Oh I'm sorry, I missed their one victory vs a D1AA team.

Why shouldn't they be confident? MU has beaten BG SIX in a row and this is on their turf. They are the 2 time defending East champs. If we want the division title, we must take it from them. Period.

Omar should be back for the Miami game. Our D, even though it was Kent State, played a heck of a game yesterday. Miami won at Kent 27-10. We won at Kent 24-14 without Omar. Their defense isn't that much better than ours and we've played basically the same teams this season.

It should be a tight game. Now it all comes down to how badly do our boys want the East title? I know I want it more than anything after the year we've had but it is right there for the taking. Can't ask for anything more at this point.

GO FALCONS!!! BEAT MIAMI!! WIN THE EAST!

It didn't hurt that Buffalo had EIGHT turnovers yesterday.

Buffalo had.... more like Miami forced. Taver's D is hopefully on track. If it isn't it will be for next year.

As for stoppage... I think holding OSU to 350 and 34 points is pretty damn good. As for UB, and a few of the other games, I think Miami pulled their starters at the beginning of the 4th or so.
