I was taking a look at the WMU game photos I took at the game a few minutes ago, and came across this. I'll give you three guesses as to how this play ended.

Is that the play where the guy from Western dropped the blue water bottles and they spilled all over the place?

No, it's the play where someone else spilled all over the place...namely our QB.

That play has had the biggest impact on our season by far.

Omar's injury was big, but I still think the injury to P.J. Pope and having a banged up Teddy P all season has been harder to overcome. B.J. Lane is a good running back, but P.J. just adds other dynamics to that offense with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and when you take that away it puts added pressure on Omar and the recievers to make plays all the time. Then with players like Piepkow being a little slower on defense you lose a lot of the ability to be effective against good offenses and thus the offense has even more pressure forced upon them to score a lot of points.

I tend to agree with this. Pope not only is a great RB and very effective catching passes out of the backfield, but he is great at picking up blitzes and his blocking skills are 2nd to none.
The loss of Omar is huge, no doubt. But PJ is our best overall player. It is soooooooooo freakin good to see him back healthy...or as close to 100% as possible.

All I know is that we weren't playing that well when Omar was healthy, but in the absence of Pope. Of course if we say that Pope was healthy Saturday (and he did look fairly healthy), then we didn't play that well with a healthy Pope & no Omar either.
If we're going to blame this season on injuries then I'd have to say they were equally important losses.
Then again, I'm more inclined to say that neither of the injuries, nor their combination, are why we're not playing up to expectations this season. I don't know what it is, but since the first half of that Wisconsin game this team hasn't had the fire very often, and when it has it's been against vastly inferior competition.

Without a doubt, that play was the most significant of the season for Bowling Green. If that play doesnt happen, we are 6-0 in the MAC and cruising to a league championship. Instead, we completely self-destruct against WMU and then AT almost single handedly costs us the game against Akron (a team that has not business being on the same field as us much less beating us). I hate to say it, but if we don't rally to win the MAC title this year, Omar's injury on this play is what cost us the title. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. We have been TERRIBLE without Omar. We were lucky we had Kent State last week, because if we played anybody else that week we would have lost and we'd be out of the race.

I'm going to say it "revisionist history" is at work here. I hate to tell you but we weren't playing like a championship team with Omar either. Were you at the Ball State game? I was. I remember leaving the stadium and commenting "I am supposed to be happy cause we won, right?" Were you at the WMU game? They came out like a team hungry for a victory and we came out like a team who was hungry for another go at the self serve sundae bar. We were in trouble in that WMU before Omar went down.
Yes it does suck we have played without Omar, but with Omar we weren't exactly wakling away with easy victories. Remember Boise?

Okay, maybe we werent exactly setting the world on fire with Omar, but we were playing considerably better with him than we have without him.
Wisconsin/Ball State - These would have been easy wins if the defense could stop anybody. Defensively we were awful for all of the Wisconsin game and for the 1st 3 Q's against Ball State. We are lucky we escaped from Muncie with a win, without Omar theres no way in heck we score the 32 points necessary for a win. No I did not go to the Ball State game.
Boise State - We were playing somebody better than us on the road. Ill let that one slide.
Temple/Ohio/Buffalo - Three blowout victories. The offense went nuts in the first two games, and the third game it was the defense stepping up. Omar didn't play well against Buffalo (or Ohio some claim) but all I care about is that we got double digit wins in both games.
Western Michigan - I went to this game. I do not see how you can say WMU wanted this game more than us. Out of the gate, we stuffed them on their first two possessions, we were getting pushes into their backfield, and we had great blocking on the offensive side of the ball. More iimportantly, we were already up 7-0 and driving for more when Omar went out. THAT'S when everything changed. WMU started dominating in the trenches, our recievers started dropping passes, their running game could not be stopped after it was virtually nonexistent in the first quarter. I think if Omar does not get hurt, not only do we win this game, but we blow them out, because that is what it looked like before Omar went out.
Akron - This team sucks, and the only reason we lost to them is because AT turned it over twice in the red zone, once on an interception, once on a fumble. If Omar plays instead of AT, we at least win by a touchdown, and it may have been another rout.

Can someone please explain to me what good bitching about the past is?
We have a chance to make it to the MACC and no one really seems to give a crap.
