MAC Bowl projections

I hear Western Michigan is getting some talk for the Motor City Bowl!

Why they draw fans, plus they are on a roll! How will this happen?

Toledo wins the West and wins the MAC Championship game, the GMAC bowl selects Toledo, and they say yes. Mainly because they have never been to the GMAC bowl and have played in the Motor City Bowl three of the last five years or is it 4 of the last five years?

Word I get (reporter) BG only gets a bowl if they win out which includes the MAC Championship game. GMAC doesn't want BG, they would prefer Toledo.

Western would still need to beat Northern Illinois to assure themself of a bowl bid with a 8-3 record. As for Miami they are in the same boat as BG, win out or your done.

Go BG beat Miami, Toledo and beat Toledo again.

I'm holding my breath.

If that scenario plays out and they take WMU over BG for the Motor City Bowl, we'll just go ahead and join the Big East next year. That'll show all of them.

Sounds good BG, as the beast in the Big East.

BG needs to draw 20,000 plus for the Toledo game. But first things first BEAT MIAMI!

I do think Western is playing the best football in the MAC.

If we don't win the MAC this year, then I don't think we deserve a bowl game. Plain and simple. Just like the NCAA tournament, the only way to guarantee a bowl bid is to win the MAC championship.

I agree, but there will be a bunch of non-deserving 6-5 teams playing in bowl games already. The MAC didn't deserve 5 bowl teams last year, but we'll take what we can get after getting screwed over for so many years in multiple sports.

I believe that the team that wins the MAC is deserving of Bowl without question. The next bowl team chosen to represent the MAC should be the next the best team, and if the next best team is not clearly the team lost MACC game then that is what it is, but it should be clear.

Well said. I hear that GMAC bowl officials will give Toledo a bid Weds. night if they beat Northern Ill. That could be good for us if we beat Miami. Toledo might forget to play us.

UT has played in the MCB 3 of the last 4 years. The one year we didn't it was Bowling Green. Here is the breakdown of MAC teams in the MCB:

Marshall - 4 (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000)
Toledo - 3 (2001, 2002, 2004)
Bowling Green - 1 (2003)

Thanks Rocket football for the MCB background. Did you hear the samething I did about the GMAC bowl going to Toledo if they win? GMAC wants to get a head start on selling tickets, they don't want to wait until the MCC. This will alos give the MAC more time to politic for a third bowl. Western is the darling right now because of their turn around season and fan support. We could learn something from them. Let's get over 20,000 for the Toledo game!

If I was a member of a bowl committee I'd be hesitant to book us. Our alumni/community attendance has been pathetic this year.

The only way we get any bowl consideration is if we win out the season and the MACC. I'm still convinced even losing the MACC doesn't give us anything, as two or three other teams could easily go instead of us.

Supposedly, Western Michigan has a chance to finish 8-3. They would need to beat Northern Illinois to achieve that.

We can't get eight wins without winining the MAC title.

So, if Bowling Green doesn't win the MAC, the Motor City Bowl might be able to make an argument that Western Michigan is better.

We'll see. Everything is really close and there are some huge football games over the next eight days.

And, of course, let's not forget (as much as we'd like to), that all things being equal WMU did pummel us on our home turf. You don't get a pass due to injuries in college football. Sure, Omar going down changed that game for the worse, but the fact still remains that when they look back they'll see a 30+ point victory in the Doyt.

true, WMU did beat us. but lets not forget how much more marketable our football team is. i've noticed a ton of people that know who Omar Jacobs is and i promise you a lot of those folks dont have a clue who Greg Jennings is!!!!!
