Brandon Murphy

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

There has been a lot of talk about Josh Betts and how we have to stop Betts to win tonight against Miami. Let me tell you, Betts is not the best offensive player on the Miami Redhawks. Our passing defense has been pretty good since the Boise game anyway, so this does not concern me that much. BUT, there is one player on the Redhawks the scares the heck out of me.

That player is Miami running back Brandon Murphy.

This guy is so fast and can break tackles pretty well. Murphy went to my high school, so I had the privilege of watching him play for 3 years against other high schools. I cannot count all the times he would break a tackle at the line and break one all the way. Once this guy gets into the secondary, he's GONE!!!, nobody can run him down once he turns on the jets. Our run defense has not been very good this season (see Wisconsin, Ball State, Western Michigan), and if we can't stop Murphy with our front 7, we're screwed. I know Omar Jacobs is back tonight and BG will rack up a bunch of points. However, if we can't stop the run, the Miami Redhawks will ride the Brandon Murphy express past us and to their 2nd MAC Championship in 3 years.

Welcome to the site dude! If you read my posts you'll definitely find that I tend to be fairly realistic about our team(s), but many call me a super pessimist. Just wanted to give ya a shout out, and a fair warning. I'm pretty much a d!cK :)

As to your post, I agree that stopping Murphy is more important this evening than Betts. I don't agree that our pass defense has been that great. WMU torched us. I think a lot of our passing numbers has to do with teams not wasting their time trying to pass because we are easily run on. If our front 7 didn't figure out how to tackle in the past 10 days this could be a long night. Hopefully they come out fired up, wrap up, and gang tackle. If they can do that we've got a real shot.

He wouldn't be a Miami(OH) student if he didn't let himself get "caught from behind" a couple of times....
