Are we now Bowl Eligible?
Also how many bowl games are there, how many teams are currently eligible?

It is my beleif that we are now eligible. We can at worst end up 6-5. THats a winning record and I beleive all you need to go to a bowl.
There are 28 bowls. 56 teams go.
By My count there are currently 49 teams eligible (including us).

It looks like there will be plenty of teams to fill the 56 spots due to a significant number of five-win teams remaining from the "power" conferences. Plain and simple, win the MAC - get a bowl game.

OK, I couldn't help myself. Here's the bowl-eligibility picture as of 11/16, 11:45 a.m. In short, BGGrad01 is correct; there will be more than enough bowl-eligible teams, so the path to a bowl is clear for BG - win two more games.
ACC - probably 8
Eligible (7): Florida State, Boston College, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami, Georgia Tech, Virginia
On the edge (likely ONE more): Maryland (5-4) needs to beat Boston College OR NC State; Wolfpack needs to beat Middle Tenn. AND Maryland; North Carolina needs to beat Duke AND Virginia Tech.
Out: Wake Forest, Duke
Big Least - Probably 4
Eligible (3): Virginia, Louisville, Rutgers
On the edge (likely ONE more): South Florida (5-3) must win one of last three games - Cincy, UConn, WVa; Pitt must beat WVa; Cincy must win TWO road games - at S. Fla., at Rutgers; UConn must beat S. Fla. AND Louisville
Out: Syracuse
PAC 10 - Probaby 5
Eligible: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Cal
On the edge (likely ONE more): Standford (5-4) must beat Cal OR Notre Dame; Arizona State must beat Arizona; Oregon State must win AT Orgeon
Out: Wazzu, Washington, Arizona
SEC - Probably 7
Eligible: Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Bama, Auburn, LSU
On the edge (likely ONE more): Tennesse must beat Vandy AND Kentucky
Out: Kentucky, Vandy, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss. State
Big 12 - likely 7
Eligible: Colorado, Iowa State, Mizzou, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech
On the Edge (likely NO more): Kansas (5-5) must beat Iowa State; Texas A&M (5-5) must beat Texas; Oklahoma State (4-5) must beat Baylor AND Oklahoma
Out: Baylor, K-State
Big Tenleven - likely 7
Eligible: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, N'western, Iowa
On the Edge (likely NO more): Michigan State must beat Penn State
Out: Purdue, Indiana, Illinois
Independents - likely 2
Eligible: Notre Dame
On the Edge (likely ONE more): Navy (5-4) must beat Army AND Temple
Out: Army, Temple
Sun Belt - likely 2
Eligible: None
On the Edge (likely 2): La.-Monroe must beat La-Lafayette AND North Texas; Ark. State must beat Army OR North Texas; La-LaFayette must beat La. Monroe; if Mid.Tenn
beats NC State AND Troy, they will be 5-5 with a postponed game against FIU that hasn't been rescheduled
Out: FIU, FAU, N. Texas, Troy
WAC - 4
Eligible: Fresno State, Boise State, La. Tech, Nevada
On the Edge: None
Out: NM State, SJ State, Utah State, Idaho, Hawaii
Mountain West - likely 4
Eligible: TCU, BYU, New Mexico
On the Edge (likely ONE more): Colorado State must beat UNLV; Utah must win at BYU
Out: UNLV, Air Force, Wyoming, SD State

a very nice picture 87 thanks for putting it up.
By the looks of things as I was thinking a couple weeks ago, the MAC will our two bowls only this year, and the only way to garuntee we go to one of them is to win the MAC.
SO beat Toledo...twice.

MACMAN:
Thanks.
BTW, for those not interested in addition, my calculations have 62 teams eligible, meaning four teams would be home. Would a bowl take a second Sun Belt team over a MAC team? Maybe, maybe not.
But here's a little red flag ... the GMAC Bowl, which has a strong relationship with the MAC, includes the WAC among its conference affiliations. This was done, I'm told, in case La. Tech became bowl eligible. Well, guess who's eligible? Could make for some tense, interesting times over the next few weeks. 8)

I find it hard to beleive that if we are Bowl Eligible in any way and have a legitimate National Player of the Year Candidate that we won't be invited to showcase that player.
I also find it hard to beleive that there will be way more than enough teams eligible when last year there were 59 eligible teams for 56 spots.

1987- When I saw the question asked about the bowls I thought, "Well 1987 ought to be able to answer that one." And there you were!
Thanks a bunch. Keep us posted

Gfitch: Shoot. Thanks for catching
my math error. No, you're correct, 28 bowls, hence, there will be SIX teams left out. You must figure that the four MAC teams and one SBC team would be first on the chopping block.
always a falcon: Glad to be of service!

1987, I was posting my post when you were yours. 3 extra teams certainly does not seem impossible from last year. Are MAC teams really the first on the chopping block. I hate that!
I wonder what a good website for Omar's Heisman campaing would have meant for overall notoriety and our goal of geting an at large bid to a bowl.

Probably not a helluva lot since he's been out due to an injury.
Time to get off the Athletic Departments back about a heisman campaign.

You're right about the GMAC and La Tech. We've been hearing however a lot of scuddle about how much the GMAC wants Toledo down there to play. UT's game tonight will tell a lot though.
Edit: Also in that situation, if the GMAC takes La Tech, doesn't the MAC get a bowl game in it's place out west? I'm not sure but I think i remember hearing that somewhere.
