What is Snakeman's deal?

Who is he? Where did he come from? How did he become such a huge BG fan?
My father and I were talking last night as he flashed on the screen and we wondered why no one seems to know anything about him? I mean, he really is kind of a cult celebrity around BG, yet no one asks any questions about him. It seems like most people just give him beer so he'll go away.
Is there a reason no one is asking?

He's Denny Stolz...life wasn't too kind to Denny after he left us before the 1985 Cal Bowl.
On the topic of bowl games...GB has an excellent shot at being the first head coach in BGSU history to lead a team to three of them. Stolz went bowling in 1982 and 1985, Blackney in 1991 and 1992.

Didn't he get struck by lightning after he became San Diego State's golf coach?

My grandfather knows him, of course my grandfather knows 80% of Wood County. I'm pretty sure that snakeman is from Portage. My grandfather also cannot stand snakeman, because he's a mooching piece of crap.

Hey Stolz could be living in Portage, who knows! I didn't say how long my grandfather has known him, because I don't know.

golfer:
Stolz announced his resignation days before the '85 Cal Bowl, taking the HC job at San Diego State. The Falcons didn't react well to the news and got blasted 51-7.
The football gods extracted revenge on Stolz, however, as he flamed out with the Aztecs and was "reassigned" to coach the golf team after a few short seasons.
I will never be able to forgive Stolz for what he did to that team, one of the greatest in BGSU history, IMO.

Snakeman.
He was born in a far-away land, raised by a monestary full of retired football coaches. When he was able to snatch the pebble from his masters hand, he was released into the world. When not at BGSU sporting events, he wonders the flat lands of NW Ohio seeking inner peace. Snakeman rides into BG from the setting sun.
Opposing coaches fear him.
Opposing players want to be him.
When threatened he summons the power of the mighty snake talisman, which is actually the shrunken head of a 40 foot python which he wrestled to death with his bear hands.
Some say he can't be killed by natural forces.
Nobody knows his real name, but when the kingdom is threatened again, he will return from his home in the west.

I know his name and where he lives...and it is in Portage.
My brother used to hang around with his son when they were in high school.

The story I have heard on snakeman is: he is a construction superintendent and was in charge of the downtown BG sidewalk, revitalization program construction aspects. This seems far fetched but maybe true???? And yes, I have given him a few free beers before down at OSU last time......He can throw em down, especially free ones.

Damn that's funny! One thing I'll give the guy....he goes to almost every single game and has for a long time.
I'm all for Falcon and BG tattoos...I have one. But on my forehead???? I am not that crazy.

He has also spent nights in the hospital for alcohol poisoning, from what he's told me. I have given him beers as well. I made the mistake of making eye contact and, just like Medusa, he has you. He's harmless most of the time but his language can get outta hand around the kids

I know I about came to BLOWS with him, when he refused to take the damn snake hat off during the national anthem. If it ever happens again the hat will be history!!!

If he was at BG when I was there ('86-'89), I didn't see him or I've blotted him out from my memory. There are a lot of people and events that have been blotted out of my memory from that hallowed place and revered time period.
I see him at the games now and he seems fine enough. He doesn't reek of Little Kings and vodka like I did during my undergraduate years and he seems more funny than creepy.
Maybe he's like the Bandit and only takes off his hat for one reason....Get that picture out of your brain now!
