Younger Players Contributing

Have you noticed how many younger players are playing and contributing more and more?

From the Miami game, here are the Freshmen and Redshirt Freshmen that I noticed participated, and most of them not just on special teams.

Freshmen

Antonio Smith
Kenny Lewis
Bobby Thomas

Red Shirt Freshmen

Of course, Corey Partridge and
Anthony Turner, but also

Erique Dozier
Joe Schaefer
John Haneline
Nick Davis
Jeff Fink
Brandon Curtis
Diyral Briggs

All 12 of these players will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Also interesting to note is that 8 of these players play defense.

When you consider that we have something like 20 Freshmen being redshirted, I'd say we have a lot of young players that can really help the remainder of this season and next few years.

Additional Comment: I was writing the above while 1987alum was posting his thorough analysis of the outlook for the future including individual references to younger players.

I agree wholeheartedly that recruiting over the last couple of years appears to be solid. I feel a little more positive than he does about the potential success of next year's team.

I enjoyed the use of our tight end. What's his name and his story? We should use him more often.

Sean O'Drobinak........redshirt soph from Indiana that got limited action last year mainly due to the 4/5-wide sets. With the injuries at WR this year, we're using the TE more and running plays to get Ruiz and O'Drobinak open. Knock on wood, but he hasn't dropped a ball thrown his way that I can recall. He's usually our lead blocker on short yardage situations as well.

Ruben Ruiz or O'Drobinak? Ruiz is a JUCO guy, and O'Drobinak was recruited out of Indiana.

Sean O'Drobniak...he's got some good hands and is a good run blocker...he's dangerous on the rollout passes and even has a bit of speed...it's nice to see BG give some TE's lovin'.

And his dad is very cool as well. :D Two touchdowns, now that's the way you make the most of the two passes thrown your way.

Salsa:

Good post and a great follow-up to my OCD-fueled look at our depth.

If Perry can keep it together off the field, he will combine with Lewis & Smith
to give us a great secondary. That's something we haven't been able to say for a while.

Thomas impresses me a great deal. And don't forget that Macon is earning a redshirt this year. That means two years of Thomas/Macon, not to mention the other freshman (Bullock?) who's earning an RS.

This is very encouraging. Briggs, Curtis & Davis have, in particular, stood out to me. Haneline has the bloodlines, of course.

Oh, and to the discussion about TE ... Ruiz has been moved to WR.

Thanks for the TE responses. He will now be known as Sean O'.

I liked his catches. TE use could really mix the pot up for us. Get those defenses guessing again.

If you want a TD
Pass it to O'D
