Omar - Go Pro or not?
Omar - Go Pro or not?
In August Omar was a 1st rounder and top 20 pick. Now he is lucky to be Charlie Frey and go in the 3rd. He has been hurt, hasn't been dominant and the pros will crucify him for his throwing motion.
I know most of us would like him to return but is it in Omar's best interests? A geat deal of his supporting cast will be gone and he will struggle to match this years stats considering our schedule for next year. His stock may never be higher.
Many QBs who leave early struggle but should Omar take the chance?
He will be considered a system QB like that of Texas Tech QBs in many aspects and I don't see them lighting up the NFL or even making rosters. There aren't many spead QBs in the pros to date and think he would benefit from another year of experience (and Alex Smith's).
I would love to see him bring glory to BG but I don't see it.

His best football move would be to go. With next year's team, he can count on flat production, and the pros will start to think he has topped out. They hate nothing more than to think a player has hit his ceiling.
He also doesn't (or hasn't) brought the intangibles of a great QB. Josh Harris would have won the game today.

Charlie Fry was in a similar situation. He came back and, to me, did not look as good his Senior year. But obviously, the scouts and those that know, recognized he was doing a lot with very little and thusly was still a third round pick. If Omar would come back, I think it is a chance for him to prove that he can carry a team himself and be a leader on the field.orangeandbrown wrote:His best football move would be to go. Agree that Josh would have won the game too. But Josh also had Urban as a coach and he certainly would have done a better job manageing out last offensive series in regulation than what the current staff did. That would have given Josh a big advantage.

But it is his decision.

MACMAN
Omar is BGSU's "superstar" according to many media outlets. Media outlets that say with out Omar, a player overlooked by the BCS schools we are ordinary. He is still listed as First Round draft pick by many of those who speculate, here is one link
http://www.sportznutz.com/nfl/draft/
While I agree Omar should stay, I say that only because:
He missed three games
Left his goals unaccomplished mainly wining the MACC (not that, that could not happen next year) and not that, that could not still happen this year.
He has a chance to realy show his worth next year, not that he has not already. When we examin our OCC sch, it will be his leadership and playmaking ability that keeps us in those games or even win those games with his sound judgment.
Our D has come full circle this year and so now again playing better, and we can expect that next year they will again be very stingy.
Omar should stay to grow, get more time in games, becasue as we all know rookie QB ride the bench the first year generaly, and if he is not with a team that does not make an investment in him...esp in the 1st round (and is arguable that he would go in the first) he could end up like Josh past around the league like so many qb's
To finish his SR year, and let his numbers speak to the media, and be his Heisman voice.

WHAT? Third down has killed us the last two years on defense. How many times did TU not convert on third down - 2 or 3 times? How many 4th down conversions did they make? I cringe on third and long because I know that 9 times out of 10, the opponent is going to get a first down. We have to get better at defending on thrid down.MACMAN wrote:Our D has come full circle this year and so now again playing better, and we can expect that next year they will again be very stingy.

I very rarely agree with MACMAN, but I do in this case.transfer2BGSU wrote:WHAT? Third down has killed us the last two years on defense. I think we've got some fine talent coming along. The defense does seem to have jelled more. There's Antonio Smith, Dyral Briggs coming along... I actually think defense may start to grow into a strength.
I'll admit there is plenty of room for argument... but that's where I come down.
Omar needs to leave
He's helping BG in a way by doing it too....I'd like just as much as anyone for Omar to run the show next year, but with the team he comes back to, it's not going to help him. On our side, of course it hurts to lose a guy like Omar, but again, with the team we have coming back, maybe it's time to get AT out there and start the rebuilding process.

Wow.. we're already assuming next season will be a debacle given the schedule and it's not even 24 hours since this season (barring the outcome of the Akron game) ended.mk455 wrote:i honestly think he should go now and take what he can get and go from there... i dont think next year's BG team is gonna do anything to improve his draft status. don't get me wrong... i'd love to see him stay, but i only see next season hurting him in the long run.
Great Support!
