How About this as a Future Strategy?

While watching the Dallas-Denver NFL game, I was very interested in a statement by one of the TV commentators. He said that the secret to Denver's excellent defense was that they had 20 linemen and linebackers that they continuously rotated. An individual player might be in for a handful of plays and then would be replaced.

I'm wondering if this would be a successful strategy for BG? I noticed that we did not substitute that much on defense, especially on the defensive line. One of the TV commentators, for example, said late in the game that Mike Thaler was really running out of gas.

Can you recruit enough defensive players to do this kind of rotation without taking away from other positions that you need to recruit?

I know we try to do that, but I don't think we have the depth. Don't forget, we lost Crossley and Leininger off the line. In our stronger days, we rotated guys a lot.

In the meantime, if we tackled better (early in the game, when we aren't tired), we'd be sitting on the bench resting.

Yeah...I think recruiting more good football players is a great idea. Let's email the coach!

Now Flip, that wasn't what he asked. He asked if doing this would take away from what you need at the other positions. I would submit that the result (lack of depth on the line) is partly the result of over-recruiting on offense.

but we arent exactly really deep on offense either. to some extent you recruit areas you need help in and to some extent you recruit the best of whats out there. certainly DL is the weakest spot on our entire team, with ST a close 2nd.
