This article reads very much like every other article up until this point. The writer talks about how BG was shocked by the 2002 game and then exacted revenge in 2003. It's a short read and does mention that "NIU has sold approximately 22,000 tickets for today's game, although officials are banking on walk-ups and a strong student turnout."

I wonder how deep the fan support really is conference-wide and how it will fair when some teams run through a down cycle, like UT for example.

Gut check? Low. I think if almost anyone in this conference, if they hit one and maybe 2 down years, you are looking 8k average at games. Just IMHO.NWLB wrote:I wonder how deep the fan support really is conference-wide and how it will fair when some teams run through a down cycle, like UT for example.

Omar Jacobs, who ranks 18th nationally in total offense at 273 yards a game. Jacobs, who is a stronger passer than his predecessor, commands an offense that stretches opponents with four- and five-receiver sets.
Not bad for only starting 2 games. Just wait until he has better mechanics. Wait until next year!

I think Kent and Akron can pull themselves up. Half the battle is simply making the students feel they can show up and not feel shamed by being Kent fans. I'm not actually joking either. I think 90% of why their students don't show, is because they have been SOOOO bad, you don't admit to be a fan.
They have done some work in changing that. I think it can feed on itself over time. There, as elsewhere, they must make gameday more than just the game. There has to be something going on from three hours before kickoff, until the game is over.

I remember being at the Kent game last year and their was hardly any tailgating there. We went up to the game a couple hours before start and it was dead in the parking lot. At the game, there was more orange than anything. By the 4th quarter with the outcome of the game a foregone conclusion, it was almost all orange and we were chanting "This is our house!" That was classic.NWLB wrote:They have done some work in changing that. I think it can feed on itself over time. There, as elsewhere, they must make gameday more than just the game. Kent Attendance
According to Cleve. PD, KSU/Akron drew 25,000+ last nite at Kent, one of largest crowds in their history. I hope so, not for KSU's sake, but it helps the MAC look like what it supposedly wants to become, more "big-time". 8)
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
When people like Harris at the Blade whine about how half of the MAC won't make the cut, they mean Kent, even if they don't say it.
It is all in the marketing and budgets. If they don't spend, they won't draw. Winning would help too.
