Yes, the last few years weren't pleasant, but he won two championships and recruited a slew of players who were central to the program's resurgence onto the national scene. Once a Falcon, always a Falcon.
Happy retirement, Coach.

Fond regards and happy trails, Coach.
I can't believe he's 60. Man, I'm old.

What team did he bring back to the national scene. The team I followed has such a national following it can't get 15,000 people to go to its games.

Maybe we should change the University credo to "nationally known, locally ignored".....

"BGSU football, We'll shrink the stadium so atleast it looks like there are more people here."

"BGSU football, if you come we will put the OSU game on the little big screen so you can kinda see it."

You're exactly right, they got 17,438 on a freezing, windy weeknight when the game was on TV.
Considering they've been on ESPN at least 12 times in the past 3 years alone and have won 2 consecutive bowl games, I'd say the nation knows who BG is despite (as Flipper said) relatively minor support from a small town fan base.

"BGSU football. We can't average over 15,000 so we will talk about the attendance to games against our rival that are basically to go to the MAC championship for both teams, less than 30 miles apart, that we still can't sell out."

"Germainfitch1: I can't let anything die, especially when being negative."
I never saw a game you coached, Gary, but thank you for your contributions to Bowling Green State University. Things may not have ended the way you would have liked, but you were part of a very long winning tradition. Enjoy retirement!

Good riddance. With a talent like Beechcroft Bob at the helm, it's shocking he didn't have a winning season the entire time I was in school.
