Awards Banquet????

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Just logged on and found out the yearly awards banquet was yesterday. I attend this banquet every year and didn't see any mention the banquet was being held yesterday. I know BGSU 99 & 96 usually go as well.
Bummer.

You know, I thought it kind of snuck up this year. Normally, there's some chatter about it here.

My grandparents went to it and said from the way that Coach Brandon was talking, he made it sound like Omar was going to come back next year.

From what I'm hearing, had the team gone to a bowl game he most likely would have had enough exposure to declare. But it's expected he will be returning.

I went to the banquet and what Coach Brandon said was "This is not the Omar Jacobs going away party". He mentioned Omar, and staying, several times, as if he was hoping it's true.

If Omar is a third rounder or a first day guy, he is gone. An agent will send him to a workout facility and he will attend the combines. Those mean more than anything else.

The funniest part of the evening was when Brandon announced he wasn't going anywhere. There was a muffled groan from the room.

There is no fire in this guy or his coaching staff. The DC sounded like Luther from "Coach." They looked beat.

The senior class was the last of Urban's recurits. They were credited with the return to winning.

But not only are they gone, but (with the exception of Coach Stud) all the coaching EXPERIENCED coaching talent is gone. ( a couple of the young guys will have great carrers, just not at BG).

It's over. At least for a while.

I forgot to mention, the food sucked. Leather chicken and frozen rolls served buffet style. It was bad even for university standards. No wonder the Pres didn't show. (had another commitment).

I noticed that the coaches did not even look excited or interested at the SEBO groundbreaking as well. From my own personal opinion, I feel Brandon was going throught the motions, and if I had to bet on it, he will not be back next year.

This is just my gt feeling(Butch Davis), but the man is already half way out the door. One bit of good news, he told someone as he was leaving early that he had to go meet 2 kicker recruits that afternoon.

What the heck are you saying? You think Brandon is going to get fired? Or do you think he is leaving for another job somewhere? If that is the case, do you think is a head coaching job or as a offensive coordinator? I'm baffled because no one else has mentioned that they think Brandon is going anywhere right now. Please explain.

Brandon will be here until he is asked to leave. There is a reason he coached 22 years before getting an HC shot.

Omar . . . Who's he going to throw to if he stays?

Easy there, the cupboard is not bare! Even Charles and Steve were freshman and sophmores at one time.

While I think that would be the greatest thing to happen to the program since the day Urban Meyer was announced as the new HC, I'm with Warthog. How is he going to be leaving? Nobody in their right mind would hire him as a HC, and we cannot afford to fire him. I could see a large program offering him an OC job, I suppose, but why would he take it? He could probably make marginally more in salary as an OC at a big time program, but prestige wise it's a step down the coaching ladder.

I really hope you're right, but I find it pretty hard to believe at this point. I think he's got 2 more seasons on his contract. If next year is the step down that many expect we might see him fired then, but I cannot believe we'd fire him now.

Get used to it Spart. You will need thick skin for these boards. Although, you are right. Let's not forget that Steve didn't emerge as a star receiver until his Junior year. I also understand there have been some good looking recruits in town and some were even at the banquet. I remember folks wondering what are we gonna do after Josh and I think we all have the answer now. I remember wondering what we would do after Robert Redd and we have had quite a few answers.

As for Brandon, he made it clear that he is not going anywhere and he is here for the long haul. He wanted to put an end to any rumors. IMHO, I think his ship sailed last year and his stock has fallen.
