Mike Gottfried of ESPN on hot coaching prospects

Post by orangeandbrown »

"Three guys come to mind right away: TCU's Gary Patterson, Wyoming's Joe Glenn, and the guy at Bowling Green (Gregg Brandon)," Gottfried said. "Patterson beat Oklahoma earlier this year, he's a good offensive guy, but he coaches defense as well. Glenn's won at (then-Division II) Northern Colorado and at (Division I-AA) Montana, won a national championship at Montana."

Glenn came to Wyoming from Northern Colorado, so if Colorado does can their HC, Glenn would certainly have some appeal. Now, about that guy from Bowling Green ...

Speaking of the coaching rumor mill, the folks at bobcatattack are linking to a newspaper article that names Turner Gill as a candidate at Buffalo.

I would think that Patterson and Glenn, who is coming off a down season will both get a lot of run in Boulder. Also, the current coach at Montana and someone like Bobby Petrino (Louisville) could get mentioned as well.

Between San Diego State and Colorado, it will be interesting to see how close the domino effect gets to Bowling Green.

Akron's Coach?

Post by Class of 61 »

I mentioned this on an earlier thread....but I would not be surprised to see some schools taking a long look at Brookhart, the head guy at Akron. Named coach of the year LAST YEAR in the MAC, and now a MAC champion inside of 2 yrs. isn't bad for starters.

Re: the "original" post on this thread, seems to me that, for a new guy on the block, you're awfully opinionated about BG's future under GB. I'm not saying a thing until I see what happens next year. Frankly, I would think we're not looking at a stellar season, due primarily to the difficulty of our OOC schedule, plus having to play Akron and UT away. But I'm still willing to give this some time before I push a panic button.

Oops! Sorry for this post on the wrong thread: I meant it to be directed at the new guy on the block who's down on GB.

Akron is light years ahead of where they were before Brookhart got there, but he's still a .500 coach (give or take a game or two) The MAC title is nice, but I don't think it makes as much noise as the double digit winning seasons Brandon had.

If (cr)Akron can go 10-2 with a couple of big OOC wins like NIU did in 2003, then I think Brookhart will get mentioned a lot.

Wouldn't it be wierd if "The guy at Bowling Green" referenced by Gottfried was John Lovett?

Maybe Gottfried reads this message board and is impressed by the collective football knowledge displayed, so maybe "the guy from Bowling Green" is one of us? :P

Brandon is going no where, unless someone forks over 300K to Mr. Krebs.

I thought his buyout was double that amount.

As a Rocket fan please hear my plea to keep Brandon from going anywhere. We Rocket fans really like him as the BG coach. :)

I'm wondering how much you'll like him if he has more games like the first BG-UT game he was HC for.

Well, that game was at BG and he only won 31-23 and was behind 14-7 at halftime. I can live with that if he wins a few close ones at BG from time to time. It's bound to happen.

Now if you would have said something like the way Meyer kicked out butts in 2001.......................... :(

Hmmm. Interesting perspective. I felt like we had control of the game for practically the entire second half. Either way, I'll take a "close" win every time.
