Gregg Brandon
Gregg Brandon
Personally, I think Brandon is a joke. The program has been going down hill more and more each year the last 3 seasons. He doesn't know how to coach in game and espicially, doesn't know how to recruit anybody other then at QB, RB, and WR. He needs to start recruiting some defensive players, espicially defensive lineman. Did you see how their D line got manhandled by the Wisconsin o-line? The only reason why Brandon was so sucessful his first year was that he was using Urban Meyers players. That's why are team has gotten worse and worse over the last 3 years. If we don't get rid of Brandon soon, who knows how bad our record will be next year.

I agree with some of your post. We haven't done a very stellar job at all of recruiting good defensive players. I hope the days of the d-line getting manhandled are over next year with guys like Nick Davis and Curtis and Hardwick and others getting bigger and stronger next year. We'll soon see if Coach Brandon did a good job on the defensive recruiting this last year.

Probably better than it is now...da3mite wrote:Yeah you have a good point there, but I still think that Brandon definately has to go and I don't want to know where this program would be in 3 or 4 years if Brandon is still here.
Like you said all UM's kids are gone...now we have all kid's that came here to play under GB. Give him a chance...maybe you'll be suprised.

I like his D-line comment. When #94 returns, things will change.Flipper wrote:I think we'll be pleasantly suprised next year. Defense wins football games and we're getting a big influx of young guys who can move on the front seven.

Matt coming back could be the difference maker...if it happens. I know I have my fingers crossed.Metz wrote:I like his D-line comment. Amen brother!!!! This is the last time I will say this because it is getting old "Two bowls in three years and both Wins!!!" Get off the guys back, not everything that went wrong this year was his fault. At this time last year he was a hero, now almost everyone wants him gone.factman wrote:wow.......seven whole posts and he's ready to run the athletic department!
Maybe we should just start a forum for ALL negative comments....it is getting real tiring.

While I've probably been the most vocal Brandon detractor, I'm not ready to get rid of him. I've made it well known that I would not shed a tear if he left for greener pastures, but at the same time I'm not ready to run him off.
The biggest reason that I'm not ready to run him off is some of the young players who got time this season. Antonio Smith, Diyral Briggs, Kenny Lewis, & Bobby Thomas. They all showed good promise this season and could become big time players for us in the next couple years.
My W/L expectations next season are not that high. We are losing a lot of talent, and if Omar leaves then we're losing that much more. I think this year was way below my W/L expectations, and the product on the field was even worse. While I've been quoted as saying that I thought this season was a dismal failure, I think 6-5 next year would be a reasonable success. The biggest things I want to see improved next year are the fundamentals. We were a poor blocking team, an AWFUL tackling team, and bad on Special Teams. I want to see the coaching staff make strides in those areas. I want to see a better intensity and more leadership in the face of adversity...things that were lacking greatly this year.
I don't need to see an improvement in record to see an improvement in how well coached I think this team is. Another step backward next year and I will definitely be right with you calling for a firing. I don't like what I've seen so far, but I'm still willing to wait it out for at least one more season.

I'm sure you had a good deal to say in that paragraph you wrote. I stopped at this sentence, however.da3mite wrote:Personally, I think Brandon is a joke.
Let's make the language a touch less personal. I'm not sure of GB as a head coach right now. In fact, I started a thread calling for his release. I cited what I saw as flaws in his coaching style and other observations (be they right or wrong).
I still like the guy and I'm willing to give him another year, but I won't degrade the man. He wears the orange and brown.
