The BGNews did a very nice synopsis of the highs of each sport this past calender year. And since it covers all BG sports and I think people need to see the article, I thought I'd put it in this forum since the football forum seems to get the most hits . It's a much needed breath of fresh air in my opinion. There are a lot of positives one can take to keep filling that glass if they decide to take that route. Thank you BGNews for the article, I enjoyed reading it.

League titles, dominating individual performances, national exposure and broken records. Here’s a list of the most memorable moment of 2005 for each of BGSU’s 17 varsity athletic teams.
Baseball: It’s a rarity when a BGSU baseball player is selected in the MLB draft. Nolan Reimold overcame those odds when the Baltimore Orioles took him with the 61st overall pick of April’s draft. Reimold, the 2005 MAC Player of the Year, became the program’s fourth highest draft pick. Reimold helped Frederick Keys win the Carolina League championship and was named the top prospect in the New York-Penn League.
Softball: Gina Rango will break nearly every meaningful school record in 2006 — and most of them will be her own. Rango, a senior, was named the 2005 MAC Player of the Year and became just the second All-American in program history. Rango, a third baseman, holds BG records for batting average, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage and is second in total bases and hits.
Men’s basketball: Germain Fitch scored with 27 seconds remaining to end an improbable comeback as the Falcons beat visiting Toledo, 70-69, on Jan. 22. BG trailed by 17 at the break but went on a 9-0 run to start the second half. The Falcons were sensational in the second half, shooting 76 percent and committing just four turnovers.
Women’s basketball: A year after falling in the MAC championship game, the Falcons climbed one more step, topping Kent State 81-75 for their first MAC tournament title in 11 years. The Falcons, who are 7-0 this year, also won last year’s MAC regular season title with a 13-3 record. BG fell to Kansas State, 70-60, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Women’s cross country: Sophomore Jamie Roflow led the Falcons in every race this season and performed brilliantly against other competitors, too. Roflow won the Mel Brodt Invitational and took third at the Falcon Invitational. She also finished eighth at the MAC meet and should be one of the league’s top runners for the next two years.
Men’s cross country: It’s a safe bet Rogers Kipchumba will be the first BG men’s runner to cross the finish line. Kipchumba, a junior, has been the top Falcon runner in all 15 races since transferring from Kansas State after his freshman year. The Kenyan won the Mel Brodt Invitational on Sept. 10 and finished 13th at the MAC Championships, earning all-league honors.
Football: BG was a completely different team this year when Omar Jacobs was behind center. That was certainly evident when Jacobs, after missing almost three games with a separated shoulder, returned for BG’s 42-14 drubbing of Miami on Nov. 15. The Falcons scored 23 points in the first quarter and tied an NCAA record with three safeties, snapping a six-game losing streak to the RedHawks.
Men’s golf: BG was at its best at the first tournament of the season. The Falcons broke three school records on their way to winning the John Piper Intercollegiate, Sept. 12-13, at Stone Ridge Golf Club. BG set marks for 18 holes (275), 36 holes (562) and 54 holes (845). Brad Dearsman was the top finisher for BG — third overall — posting a combined score of 212.
Women’s golf: At the Youngstown State Invitational on Sept. 12, the Falcons shot a combined round of 303, the best 18-hole score in school history. The next day they won the team title with a score of 615. BG’s Kari Liggett and Jessica McCann both shot 154, one stroke behind champion Christina Cibrario of Oakland.
Gymnastics: Jess Guyer’s personal achievement was overshadowed by something she helped her team accomplish during a home meet on Feb. 18. Guyer’s floor score of 9.950 was the second best in school history and it propelled BG to its highest score (196.100) in the program’s 30 years of existence. Of the 24 routines performed that day, the Falcons bested or tied 17 career bests.
Hockey: His disease was kept a secret. His play was not. Jordan Sigalet, who announced he has Multiple Sclerosis last December, finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in save percentage (.915). Sigalet, now in the Boston Bruins organization, was nominated for “Best Comeback Athlete” at the ESPY Awards in July.
Men’s soccer: BG carried a 25-game losing streak into its Sept. 23 home game against No. 11 Ohio State. A new streak was started as the Falcons upset the Buckeyes, 3-2 in overtime, and followed with a 3-2 win over Saint Mary’s two days later. BG freshman Kyle Williams scored at the 106:00 mark against OSU, giving the Falcons their first win since he was a junior in high school.
Women’s soccer: BG won just one game in the MAC tournament this year. It was one more than it lost. The Falcons won their second-straight league championship on a shoot-out against Kent State on Nov. 6. Five days earlier, BG won a shoot-out over Toledo in the MAC quarterfinal. Both counted as ties rather than wins for the Falcons. BG lost to Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA tournament — the Falcons’ first defeat in a near six-week span.
Swimming: Jessica Guinness’ times in the 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle are all top-10 in school history. But her greatest achievement may have come away from the pool. Guinness, a biology/pre-med major with a 4.0 gpa, was nominated for the Rhodes Scholarship in October for his exploits in the classroom.
Volleyball: September was good to BG coach Denise Van De Walle. BG topped Van De Walle’s alma mater, Ball State, for the first time in 13 years on Sept. 24. Two weeks earlier Van De Walle eclipsed the 400-win plateau when the Falcons swept Chicago State.
Tennis: The Falcons hope a successful fall season will translate to a promising spring campaign in 2006. At the Wolverine Invitational in early October, senior Andrew Meister finished second and freshman Kelsey Jakupcin won three straight matches after an opening-round loss. BG opens the spring portion of its schedule Jan. 21 at Ohio State.
Track and Field: Kerri McClung was the first Falcon in four years to compete at the national meet and the first in 10 to advance in shot put. McClung finished 20th with a mark of 49-05.75.

That was definitely a great night. The ladies were on fire and hit everything! When you're having to drop a 9.85 as your low score, you've had a great night!UK Peregrine wrote:Gymnastics: Jess Guyer’s personal achievement was overshadowed by something she helped her team accomplish during a home meet on Feb. 18.
