Toledo does it again...
Toledo does it again...
Toledo was tied for 24th in the nation out of 117 Division 1 teams for the most penalties this year with 90 for a total of 809 yards showing that lack of discipline that Fat Head stresses. BG on the other hand was tied for 100th.

And they still had a better record, beat us on home field, and went to a bowl game.*cowboyjoe wrote:Toledo was tied for 24th in the nation out of 117 Division 1 teams for the most penalties this year with 90 for a total of 809 yards showing that lack of discipline that Fat Head stresses. 2005 season is over. Time to move on.
*Mitigate all the UT posters saying their mantra.

Need to have penalties to succeed? Come on..they can have success without being one of the most penalized teams in the country wouldn't you agree? Not time to move on til all the facts are straight You probably want our basketball players to flip off opposing fans and untuck our shirts when we get taken out of the game...as long as we win the league, right?
I don't think that is what RUIT is saying. He made his comment to prempt any UT poster from saying the obvious comeback.
BG has always been about having class in our athletic programs - there are alot of schools who do not think it is important. I am thinking of Bob Huggins rein at UC and the graduation rate. Sure the new President canned him, but the alumni and fans are outraged. Their attendance is down something like 4,000 a game - mostly season ticket holders. Success allows some people to overlook such things as graduation rates, discipline and class.
And I agree - the season is over and let's look forward to next year.

I don't believe those items you mention carry the same significance as a 10 yard holding call.cowboyjoe wrote:Need to have penalties to succeed? And I was only saying that to mitigate UT fans.

A lot of Toledo fans have been frustrated by the penalties as well, not just the number but the timing of some. However I think the days of numerous personal fouls are behind us and I think it's WAY over the top to say there is no discipline there. Undisciplined teams don't have the kind of success UT has. I think the coaches encourage a high risk, high reward style of play that has panned out pretty well the last several years.
Having seen a number of your other posts and from your insistance on calling Amstutz fat, Joe, I know you're suffering from Bowling Green produce syndrome (too many sour grapes) but the statistics do lend themselves to some thoughtful discussion. I think you'll see UT continue to be penalized a lot, go for it on fourth down a lot and take a lot of risks, many of which will pay off.

This is obvioulsy going to turn into yet another UT/BG p!ssing match.
I'll have none of it since .
UT Triplets, you don't get it - much of what has been posted in this thread. Penalties are a reflection of coaching - and that is the topic of this post. I even attempted to head off your response but your need to respond was far too great.
H2O, thank you for your response and I would say "frustrated" would be putting it lightly.
Anyway, time to move on.
