Funny how it cites his throwing motion as needing more seasoning.

I think if he stays Omar definitely should go.

I see the following teams as drafting a QB on the first day:

Detroit
Miami
New Orleans
Oakland
Tennessee

And the following as likely on the second day:
Baltimore
Buffalo
Chicago
Cleveland
Dallas
Green Bay (If Favre calls it quits)
Houston (If the Carr project ends)
NY Jets (Pending Pennington's injury/injuries)
Philadelphia

I think Dallas, Philadelphia and Miami would be the best fits for Omar.

I thought Josh would be a good fit with the Eagles and I think Omar would, too.

Depending who gets the coaching gig (i.e. not another retard) I think Omar could be fun in Detroit as well. That WR corps is talented, and they're going to let Harrington go almost for sure (even though he's not as bad as most Lions fans believe). Kevin Jones should give them a running game too. If they improved their OL I think that's a very desireable situation for a QB, again assuming they hire somebody who will actually run an NFL offense.

I think Millen's going to hire someone who's willing to give Joey another shot. Mooch was down on him from day one, so the last couple of years have been wasted for Harrington.

I think he can be a good QB in an offense that actually has an Oline and throws the ball downfield.

Detroit's also hot on the trail of some CFL QB (Painter? Printers?) thinking he might be the next Jeff Garcia. That would fill the top two slots.

I think Miami or New Orleans are real possibilities though....

You seem to have strong feelings about the decisions made by the Lions coaching staff. My advice: Don't suppress them, don't sugarcoat them. You need to address them straight on.

As an aside, on the MAC board, someone said they didn't see Omar getting drafted at all.

I'd like to see Omar in Philly; there'd be no pressure to compete for the top job for a few years. I also wish Reid and/or Banner would pick up Cole Magner. The Eagle WRs, outside of Reggie Brown, couldn't catch a freakin' cold over last half of the season.

I'll take Omar to my Phins late in the 1st day.........

Hammb, was that you that called into the Ticket yesterday and gave them the "Omar Jacobs will QB the Lions next year" line?

Well it's just that I feel bad for that organization. I'm not a Lions fan, but I do like to see them do well, and they're an embarrassment (kinda like my real team).

Look back at the last time they had to hire a head coach. They jumped head first into the Marriucci waters forgetting that he had run a proud organization into the ground once he got rolling. He also alienated his one true superstar, although that's looking pretty easy to do with TO nowadays. They were so head over heels with the offensive brilliance that was Mooch they took the NFL fine for not even interviewing a minority candidate. The two big name minority candidates that they could've hired that offseason? Lovie Smith & Marvin Lewis...remind me how they're doing?

Millen is a moron and has proven it with 2 disastrous coaching hires. I think it's time to cut ties and let it go. Instead they're letting him hire another coach. Who does he go out and interview? Jim Haslett! Is there a head coach in the NFL who has consistently gotten less with more over the past few years? I'll let him slide for the crap he went through this season but here is a guy that has coached talent like Joe Horn, Aaron Brooks, Deuce McCallister, Ricky Williams, La'Roi Glover, etc. Has even gotten one playoff appearance from that group?

I prefaced my statement because I don't trust Millen to make a competent hire, and if he does not then it's not a good situation for anyone. Mooch tried to force a short passing game offense on 3 large, stretch the field, targets and a downfield passer. I'm not saying Joey Harrington is Montana, but he sure as hell ain't Leaf either. If you put a decent coach in there that's a pretty talented team. Way too talented to win only 4 games. Conversely look at the Browns. Practically devoid of talent...definitely one of the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the NFL in that regard, and they pulled out 6 wins. Get a coach and that Detroit situation would be pretty attractive to a young QB.

You are wrong about the number of teams drafting a QB on the first day. Look back on recent history and the number of good qbs in this draft and that will be easy to see. Also dependent upon Brees situation we could have some young vets on the market..... I would bet on 1 first rounder although Mel Kiper did just list Vandy's Jay cutler as his number nine overall senior......

I was recently looking at the number of starting qb job openings around the league this offseason compared to the number of players available and I thought it would be interesting to gaze into the crystal ball a little and try to pinpoint which player would end up with which team.

There will certainly be alot of movement this offseason in terms of starting QBs. I think there are 7 teams that could be looking for new starting QBs next season:

Cardinals
Raiders
Jets
Lions
Ravens
Dolphins
Saints

Plus 3 teams that I beleive will be looking to draft/add a young QB to backup their aged veteran: Chiefs, Cardinals(After resigning Warner), Cowboys.

The Players I think will be available include:
Trade (FA year)
Phillip Rivers-SD 2010 edit No longer likely to be traded with a brees injury.
David Garrard-Jax 2008
Matt Schaub-Atl 2006

Release (FA year)
Patrick Ramsey-Was 2006
Aaron Brooks-NO 2007
Kerry Collins-Oak 2009
Joey Harrington-Det 2007
Kyle Boller-Balt 2007
Tim Rattay-Buc 2006

UFA
Kurt Warner-Cards
Josh McCown-Cards
Jon Kitna-Cin
Jeff Garcia-Lions
Anthony Wright-Ravens
Charles Batch-Lions
Chris Wienke-Panthers
Shane Matthews-Bills

RFA
Chris Simms-TB 2005

Draft
(obvious 1st rounder)
Matt Leinart USC
(potential)
Vince Young
Omar Jacobs
Jay Cutler

With all of the voices on here coming from all parts of the US I am sure that different people have different insights. These are my thoughts.

Cards: They maybe should not be in here becasue I am almost certain they will resign Warner. He played well enough and should be back for a tleast a few years. The team will likely add a young veteran or draft a QB in rounds 3-4 (Omar Jacobs, Jay Cutler) for down the Road. Jon Navarre is in place as well and they just signed Rohan Davey.

Ravens: Brian Billick was just given another year to try to get the Ravens back to the playoffs. Odds are he won't be turning to a fresh face at QB in that one season. I don't think Kyle Boller should be starting but I think he will be back for the Ravens. Likely with a veteran backing him up.

Raiders: Aaron Brooks will likely be released and is there a better fit in the league. Strong armed but a little nutty the talented but inconsistent QB may be revived throwing balls to Randy Moss.

Jets: David Garrard will likely be seeking a place he can start and the Jets will likely be after a QB who can play soon with Curtis Martin at the end of his rope. The Jets have experience in Bollinger and Fiedler to backup Garrard. They also have DE Abraham to trade.

Lions: Phillip Rivers will likely be traded and with the Chargers on the outside looking into the playoffs I doubt they will want to help a team in the AFC who could get better and put them back in the same position. The Chargers are also lacking WR's and the Lions happen to have 3 first rounders.

Dolphins: The Dolphins are not that far away from being back in the playoffs and can't afford to take a big step backward in terms of Qb play. Frerotte will likely get the chance to handle the duties again but a longer term solution is needed. I think they will sign a released Patrick Ramsey.

Saints: I think they will draft Matt Leinart and let him be the face of the franchise. I say franchise because I think he would be qually good as the Qb of a revitalized team in New Orleans and a team that moves to Losa Angeles. Kitna could still have an option of going to the Saints and warming a seat for Matt Leinart.

Chiefs: I expect the Chiefs to Sign Joey Harrington as a backup to Trent Green for a few years and then the starter.

on the live chat today:

Marc (Atlanta): Please answer a Bowling Green question. Its hard to get information on these guys. Do you think Omar Jacobs is going to declare for the draft and if he does what round would he go in? Also, do you think his star receivers Charles Sharon and Steve Sanders will be drafted and if so where?

Mel Kiper: (1:49 PM ET ) I would hope he would go back, Jacobs. His delivery is unorthodox. His numbers as a junior weren't as good as the previous year. He's a winning QB. He's 6-3, 225. But he has the strange delivery. His numbers are down a little bit.

Ahem excuse me, but my post is total specualtion.

So exactly how many quarterbacks will be drafted in the first three rounds next year?

Last year there were 6 drafted in the first three rounds. And 2 more went in Round 4.

You were saying?

Bronson (Pittsburgh, PA): Mel, where do you see our hometown guy, Toledo's QB Bruce Gradkowski going in this years draft?

Mel Kiper: (1:54 PM ET ) I'd say late round or undrafted free agent. He's a tough, hard-nosed football player.
