Any NFL team....

Post by hammb »

that passes on Vince Young will be kicking themselves for years to come. Since the OSU-UT game I've thought VY was a legit prospect that had really improved his game. Throughout this season I saw a man who was a mature leader and had unreal physical tools. Then tonight I watched him take over a championship game like never before. He was the best player on the field with a LOT of first round talent.

My preference of dual threat QBs may be clouding my judgement but I don't think there's a better NFL prospect in all of college football than Vince Young. Reggie Bush is the only player that even deserves to be in the conversation, but I still give the edge to the QB. Vince has "it", size, and arm strength all rolled up into one. Matt Leinart's wet dreams don't have him playing as well as Vince did tonight.

Yep even when they were down 12, I knew if they gave Young the chance he would not falter.

Personally, everytime Vince made even a halfway decent play I was thinking to myself "so Omar is that much closer to coming back..." Thanks Vince!

Young is the greatest college QB ever.

That game was awesome.

Did any of you hear Bill Curry this morning on Mike & Mike talk about the 2 greatest college performances he has ever seen?

1. Last night with VY.
2. Byron Leftwich in the GMAC bowl a few years ago, when they came back from being down by like 30 and won in overtime.

I'm sorry, I watch a ton of football this year (like I do every year) and I just see Omar needing so much more time to develop. He really needs to come back. I would like to think NFL scouts have Omar pegged as still needing lots of work, and not be thinking about drafting him. But NFL teams have proven to be stupid at times. For Omar's sake I wish he would stay.

Omar needs more work, for sure, but if Vince sticks Omar should go. He'd be a high pick, as the 2nd or 3rd QB taken, but would still need development time.

I don't know if Vince is the best college QB ever, but he might've played the best game by a college QB ever. Certainly the best performance against a top level competition in a big game. I really hope that Vince goes to the NFL because want to see him on the next level. Plus I want to be able to trade for him in next year's Madden game :)

It's even more staggering if you look at the last two rose bowls collectively. He destroyed Michigan by himself in a shootout last year also, running for almost 2 bills and 4 touchdowns. He's an amazing college player.

On a side note, Leinart is going to be a huge bust in the NFL. I think he'll fold under some real pressure. Omar will be a better pro than Leinart.

Every time I watch USC I question why Leinart is some top 10 lock prospect. I just don't see it. He just doesn't stand out to me. Sometimes he's on and he's good, other times he looks awful. He can do nothing with his legs and he doesn't have an overly strong arm either.

He gets this reputation of being a "cerebral" QB, but I don't see it. He makes some real boneheaded throws, that his players bail him out on. I think they call him a cerebral QB, because they cannot find another description to put him under. He's not a great athlete, he doesn't have a great arm, but he puts up good numbers, so he must be cerebral? Nah...he's just had the best talent around him.

Leinart reminds me of some of those NFL-bust QBs to come out of Miami (FL). They won a ton of games and put up some great numbers, but in retrospect, it appears that much of it came because of the talent around them. Guys like Toretta & Dorsey (is that name right?).

I think it's a fair comparison. I do think Leinart has a little more arm strength than either of those two. I think he's a better NFL prospect than they were, but I still wouldn't grade him into the top 10. I don't see where he's really any better than Aaron Rodgers, and that's about where I'd draft him...in the 20's.

Leinart also didn't show much maturity after the game with his comments:

"We couldn't tackle." (true, but what's the purpose of showing up your defense/teammates?)

"I still think we're the better team, but they just made more plays at the end." (sour grapes)

I think Leinart will be better than Rogers. Rogers has no arm strength to speak of and Leinart is about average. He throws a pretty accurate ball when he keeps his mechanics in line...very accurate actually. That could bite him in the ass if the NFL. He's pretty good at squeezing the ball in between the corners and the safeties. He won't have nearly as much room to do that in the NFL as he does in college

To be fair he said "We couldn't tackle HIM" When he was asked a question about Vince Young on that final drive.

Those were 2 different quotes in 2 different interviews (one right after the game on the field, and one in the interview room). One was in response to a question, and one he just offered up himself.

Hammb, I think you're correct. The display Young put on last night was incredible. He is a machine.

His stock is sky high....and I hope he goes into the draft for very selfish reasons.

I would have to disagree with all of you, I think that Leinhart will do a tremendous job in the NFL. And another thing, if Young wants to be successful in the NFL, he has to play more like McNabb or Culpepper and less like Vick. The speed and SIZE of the NFL matches his, can't say that about colleges.
