Long time lurker, first time poster...

I was at the Bengals/Ravens game in Cincinnati this afternoon and BG's band played at halftime. Looked and sounded great! Got a pretty good reception from the crowd as well. Good luck the rest of the way!

mualum, thank you for this post. I am glad to hear this very positive report on our band. I think our new director is doing a wonderful job.

Now, if you would please help with our tackling issues on defense, your lurking days will be officially over.

Can't help you there, but if it makes you feel any better, the Bengals (paid to play!) had the same problem with the Ravens...particularly Jamaal Lewis!

I think our Assistant band director (one of the 2 grad assistants we had last year) who writes our music is doing a great job! I also think the grad assistant that teaches at a high school near Oxford and is still writing our formations on the field is doing a great job! I don't know which post to respond to But anyways, I'm not bashing the director in any way. She knows what she is doing and has turned the program around. She is getting more support from alumni and for the band program (hence the new uniforms). I have no doubt she is a great director, but right now others are helping out too and not getting the credit for it. Maybe it is good that she is sitting back and delegating authority. It gives her time to see the Falcon traditions and learn to adjust being that she is an OSU grad ::puke::

Sadly, I agree with your thoughts, but the style of marching bands has changed over the years. Not too many bands play traditional 'marching' music, nor do they chairstep at 90 degrees any more. When I was in the MUMB (affectionately known as the 'Stumbling 100') we MARCHED and played Sousa, Cohen, etc. and chairstepped at 90 degrees. Even we have changed styles over the years. I guess it's whatever keeps people in the seats at halftime. Nonetheless, the BGSU Band played and performed well on Sunday. Their lines were straight, their formations were crisp and they seemed to be performing as if they wanted to be there, not as if they HAD to be there. It was enjoyable!

We wanted to be there so bad we left after halftime That's just cause they stuck us on the same level as the concessions and had 230 chairs sitting flat instead of in theater seating. Then the color guard sat in front so none of us could see the game. With the warm uniforms, sun beating down, and lack of a football game without standing...we didn't really want to be there for anything but to perform!

BTW, did you notice a rather large fellow in a Uniform standing on the sidelines?

I also want to echo my praises to the whole program this year. The sound is wonderful, and we are marching a little better then in years past. Pre-game still frustrates me. The percussion entry looks terrible. This multiple tempo entry has to be done away with. The old entry, under Rohr, was much cleaner. However, with the improvements I have seen thus far I am certain that is on the list to clean up. Rome wasn't built in a day, and we do have a hole to climb out of. I do have one more question. Where is BUFFO!!!!

Any time I have seen the marching band, their chair was never 90d.

Sorry. It was always 45d. When I marched we had a high step with arch of the foot to the knee instead of the traditional chair. During pregame, we were lucky if the arch got past the calf. I was always marching correctly, but then again, I wasn't doing anything important. Just flapping my arms or holding my very long mace.
