Omar Draft Prediction

Post by froggyvk »

What round do you think he'll go in?

I don't buy that he's a second day pick. He has too much potential to drop that far. I think he could jump into the second, but more likely I see him going in the 3rd round. I'm also hopeful that the Lions take him (they're my favorite team), but it would not surprise me if he somehow ended up with the Dolphins in maybe even the 2nd or 3rd.

I can see him being a 3rd rounder...I don't think it'll differ much more than that. His combine efforts are going to have to be astronomical if he wants to be considered for the top 50 picks.

I would love to see the Dolphins pick him up in any round, and think there is a strong chance that it will happen. What round though, I don't know. If he has really good workouts, I can see him going in the 2nd round. If he has really good workouts AND Vince Young, Brady Quinn, and Drew Stanton should all decide not to go out for the draft, then he COULD get selected in the 1st round, but that is highly unlikely.

Quinn is staying

Post by jerzyboy247 »

Brady Quinn is staying for his senior season and I think Stanton will too. Keep in mind Chirs Leak will be in next years draft and that teams like the Chargers have Phillip Rivers who are willing to trade him. Teams looking for a quarterback within a few years are Browns, Raiders, Cheifs, Dolphins, Cardinals, Cowboys, Buffalo, and Saints are just a few teams. Keep in mind trent Green is getting older and the situation is the same for the Cowboys and the Bills. Does anyone know if Brad Johnson is a free agent because that could impact Omars stock. I believe that Ravens will give Kyle Boller another chance at QB next season and would not chance Omar unless he was open in the later rounds. I see Omar as a late 2nd round-early third round draft choice.

I can't see Omar dropping out of the 2nd round. After Leinart and Young, it's probably Jay Cutler unless Omar finds a way to pass him through excellent workouts and combine. Cutler could still find his way into the 1st round to a team like the Dolphins, then leaving Omar as the next best QB. At that point it depends on what the teams that needed a QB do. Did the Titans draft Young or did they trade down a few spots? If so, Omar could very well be the 3rd pick of the 2nd round. Teams like Arizona, Miami if they don't take Cutler, Kansas City, and Baltimore are all solid 2nd round options for Omar. Myself I can't see Omar slipping out of the 2nd round or he would be an amazing steal.
outta here....

I'm sorry, but a team that needs a QB next year or even in 2007 will probably not go after Omar. He'll need some work picking up an actual pro system and adjust to the talent level. He'll go to a team that has a QB signed for a couple years with the hope that Omar can take over eventually.

I'd be shocked if Vick goes before the 5th round. Teams want their QBs to be leaders, not selfish me-first wannabes that have never even produced a single outstanding season. The kid's got all the talent in the world and the maturity of a 13 year old girl.

During the season I thought he might be passing Omar on draft boards, but he had a late season implosion followed by more character issues. I don't see him going very high now at all.

hammb: I'm a little surprised to read that from you. When I heard Vick was kicked off the team, then declared for the draft, you were one of the first people I thought of, and I wondered what your take would be.

Here's a question for you - do you think that the whole Clarett thing will have a negative impact on Vick's position? Some thin parallels - guy plays key role in team's great season; has off-the-field problems that land him in the draft.

FWIW, I hope Omar posts monster combine numbers, aces the Wonderlic and gets drafted very high.

Well here's the thing. After the first 5 or 6 games of the season Vick was really starting to look like he could be a good QB...he was making plays with his arm and escaping with his legs when he had to. Then their schedule got tougher and he laid some major eggs against Miami & FSU. I didn't see their bowl game, but obviously he had the little stepping incident in that game.

Now he's kicked off the team and forced to enter in the draft.

As a pure prospect I'd rate him probably in the 3rd/4th round. He doesn't have prototype size, but it's passable. He's an outstanding athlete, although not near his brother's level, he is a more willing pocket passer than Mike, however. He might be a more NFL ready player than his brother who (despite my love for him) is still a runner first...Marcus is a passer first.

However, then I look and see that he laid an egg in his his biggest game of the year (Miami) and then plays a pretty solid bowl game, but tarnishes it with the classless incident. I could overlook a poor game, but then you also remember that it was his first real season as a starter.

So you've got a limited body of work where he was a pretty good player, but crumpled against the best competition. Then you remember that the reason why he has only a limited body of work is because he fed booze to some underage HS girls so he could get into their pants. Now more legal issues come out after the bowl game and he's kicked off the team. That's 2 major off the field knocks, one classless on the field move, and a pretty limited body of work to show his skills. Then factor in that this is the leadership position on the team, and I just don't see NFL teams overlooking all that.

I definitely see the comparison with Clarett, but I was shocked to see him go as high as he did too (last pick of the 3rd round). He also played a position that NFL teams will forgive a little more than QB. I still would be shocked if Vick goes in the first 4 rounds, but it wouldn't be the most stunning thing ever. Certainly he's got the physical tools, but it's very difficult to overlook these sort of issues from a QB prospect.

Just heard that as well...no linkage yet. If true it may get to the point where he doesn't even get drafted. Not sure what the charges are yet...

What a moron. Down goes his stock even further. Hard to believe any team will take him with any serious thoughts of him developing into a future player for them. He's proven time & again that he's an idiot, and doesn't care whether or not it costs himself or his team.
