Sharon and Sanders in All Star game
Sharon and Sanders in All Star game
There was a little blurb in the Sentinel last night about Sharon and Sanders playing in the All-American classic. Congrats to them and good luck. Here is a link to the game's web site: http://www.lvaac.com/rosters The game is this Saturday at 4:30. I think the Sentinel mentioned it is broadcast on CSTV.

Man, I've never even heard of this game...nor do I know who most of those players are on the rosters. Good luck to both of them, but it certainly not a good sign of their potential on the next level if this is the only game they can get invited to.
Hopefully Omar will hold a private workout here on campus that allows these guys a chance to show their stuff to some NFL teams.

When Omar announced he was leaving BG one of the articles mentioned he left that night or early Saturday morning to return to Florida so I am not sure if he will even return to BG any time soon. He would potentially workout for teams in the Miami area which would be unfortunate for those fringe guys here in BG.hammb wrote:Hopefully Omar will hold a private workout here on campus that allows these guys a chance to show their stuff to some NFL teams.

I'd have to look, but I believe there is actually a rule against that. I seem to recall hearing it somewhere in the past anyways. Workouts are either at the combine, or at the players' schools. I could certainly be wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that in the past...it could've changed as well.Dayons_Den wrote: When Omar announced he was leaving BG one of the articles mentioned he left that night or early Saturday morning to return to Florida so I am not sure if he will even return to BG any time soon. If he doesn't come back to BG it would definitely be a shame for all the other fringe guys, you're right. It could certainly give them a chance to show what they can do in front of a lot of scouts.

Hmmm that is interesting hammb, I have never heard of that rule- I don't really know too much about such things but it strikes me as an odd rule. Another example of the NFL treating NCAA football like its "official" minor league.
I mean if a guy is no longer enrolled in school and back home it seems stupid to require him to workout at his college.
It also woudl be a bite because I know Omar, a fourth year student, is fairly close to graduating. Obviously he has a lot on his mind this semester but if he is so close he could stick it out and graduate (D for dimploma. . ?) as it would probably be hard to come back down the road- not that a few BG hockey players and Emmit Smith and SHaq haven't done it. . .

I'm not sure either, but I think the rule is either (1) player's school, (2) combine, or (3) player's hometown.
Just looking real quick I cannot find anything, so perhaps I was mistaken. Still the workouts are usually held at the school, by the school. It usually gives some of the Juniors a chance to strut in front of the scouts as well as those that are draft eligible for this year. The idea is that the big name graduating players can help to get the names out there for those that are going back to school, or whatever. This would be a good opportunity for Omar to help out his teammates, as he would draw a good deal of teams to watch his workout...those teams would then be able to see guys like PJ, Sanders, and Sharon.
Of course, I imagine that he'll get a combine invite now that he's declared. He could opt to do a full workout there, and not have a private workout at all. An impressive performance at the combine gets seen by everyone (including every fan who has NFL Network).

CSTV stands for (I think) College Sports Television, and I think most people with satelite TV (like The Freak) can get it. You can find out more at www.cstv.com .gayfalcon wrote:uh -- i'm kinda stupid here -- what's CSTV?
just got canned from my rotten job and have lotsa time to watch tv until school starts at the end of the month!
thanks to all of you for keeping me company for several years at work!
Personally, I will be calling local bars seeing if they can get CSTV prior to Saturday. I may have to leave early, though, to get back to my apartment to listen to the hockey game.

I forgot to include my sympathy on the loss of your job. I hope that you are able to find something else very soon. Think of it this way - you are a BGSU grad - who WOULDN'T hire you?gayfalcon wrote:uh -- i'm kinda stupid here -- what's CSTV?

it was founded by the same two guys from cleveland (hts, i think) that started what is now espn classic. the new deal with cbs is supposed to expand the networks distribution, i.e. have more households see the programming.Flipper wrote:Sorry to hear about the job...
CSTV is a cable channel devoted to college sports owned by CBS. I don't know how wide their distribution is...I've never run accross them on the cablesystem here in Toledo, but Toledo isn't a reliable guide for what might go on in the civilized world...
