Much debated QB and potential MAC top prize recruit Nate Davis of Bellaire, OH lands in Muncie. He is an absolute steal for the Cardinals as long as he takes care of academics.
Chicago WR Xavier Torres lands at Central after a long flirtation with the USAFA among others.
Jared DeWalt per Rivals is commited to Akron, although it was "soft" at last check.
K/P Alex Steigerwald is set for the Rockets.

Thanks for these updates. Obviously I'm most interested in what is BG related, but it's also interesting to see what other MAC schools are up to as well.

If Nate Davis can get himself on the field he could have a BIG career at Ball State. I'm glad he went to a team in the West, hopefully we won't play them much.

Sometimes Scout.com is very slow with things. Steigerwald has been committed to Toledo for almost 2 months. There are several other UT commits that have gone public over the last month or two and Scout.com still doesn't list them as a commit to Toledo. I think it is the lack of a person assigned to MAC recruiting.

R/F:
I'd agree with your evaluation on this.... seems as though Steigerwald was "announced" in Cleve. PD the same day that BG got a verbal from his teammate, Jahmal Brown.....and that was at least 3 weeks ago or so.

DJ Young is still not even listing BG as one of the school's he's interested in, according to scout.com, but we've got a verbal already.
Scout is a great website for information, but they don't do a very good job keeping track of where these kids are going when it comes to the non-BCS schools.

Well, they're also good at stealing textbooks, so maybe it will all work out.

I originally listed Steigerwald as a UT commit on December 23rd and I gave the Plain Dealer as a source so it was at least the 23rd. Also, on December 14th the Orlando Sentinel ran a story about Florida DB/WR Joe Shuler committing to Toledo and Scout.com still doesn't even show him with interest in Toledo.

Nate Davis commits to Ball State...now if only Ball State would commit to football. The siren song of immediate playing time plucked QB Warren Suess away a couple years back to the same institution.
The MAC West is a monster right now between NIU, TU and emerging WMU and CMU programs. There is not much room for maneuvering.

I think the main reason why he went to Ball State is because of his academic problems. Yes, others like Toledo offered him but I also heard that many schools (Toledo included) started to shy away a bit and basically stopped calling him because they were afraid of his grades and started pursuing other QB's.
Even if he is qualified, there is no guarantee that his grades will stay up while he is in college. He's a great talent though so if he does manage to keep them up he will make Ball State a better team. It's just a really big gamble and a higher MAC program doesn't really need to take that gamble unless they already have other QB's coming in that year's recruiting class and they still have scholarships open to give out.

Good news on the Herb Bynes front as Louisville will be getting a visit relatively soon from California QB Matt Wabby, who is actually ranked ahead of Bynes on Scout.com. One of you guys that makes more than a meager teacher's wage could post the actual visit date if you are so inclined.
New to the radar is Alabama CB Cameron Beard. 6-0 and runs in the 4.5 range, BG has offerred and I wouldn't be surprised if he's here with Tynes and Gordon quite honestly, although Scout does not indicate such as truth.

We had several fellows at the hockey game tonight. This may be posted elsewhere. We had our kickers and a punter in. I understand the punter is quite a talent. The kickers have been listed elsewhere I believe- the Georgia and Florida HS kickers.
We will add one WR and get the QB from the groups we have in this weekend and next.
Essentially, it seems we have 19 or 20 commits and those four players would bring us to the 23 or 24 recruits we expect to bring in.
Go Falcons!

The article is dated the 13th (yesterday) and says that Wabby will be visiting next weekend. So I'm assuming that he'll be there the 20th-21st.
The quote from Beard is less than promising, “I may commit on my visit to UTEP if I am blown away, and it feels like that is the best decision for me, but I am keeping my options open. If a good program were to call tomorrow and offer me to take a trip, then I would definitely go on it.”
Doesn't sound as though he's too interested in BG...he doesn't even mention us, except that we've offered. Interestingly for me his HS is in the same little podunk Alabama town that I was born in...
