New Defensive Help Commits to Falcons?

Post by falconfan1 »

I am hearing that BG has added a couple of key defensive commits. Calvin Marshall of Miami Dillard is a safety who I am told by a southern Falcon is now "in". I believe he has been mentioned as one of our south Florida targets. From eastern OH, a player described as "an absolute beast" from Steubenville- LB Anthony Magnone- will become a Falcon. Lastly, it looks like we could be the winner in the battle for DB Tarell Lewis from Redford MI Thurston according to a Detroit alum. He is mentioned in the Top 60 Detroit News list of Michigan players posted elsewhere.

If this was already posted, my apologies. Either way, these players could be quite helpful going forward on the defensive side of the ball.

I just checked both scout and Rivals to see if i can get any infro on Lewis and Magnone and neither one of them showed up on both sites. They both must be very under the radar type players :)

Well i did some reading on J.J Huddle and the people from stubenville and others who have seen him play really have talked big about this kid. They had said he is just built and they feel he might even get moved onto the DL for us. They are syaing he could put on easy 60 pounds next year as a FR if they RS him . Right now he is 6'2 220-225 and from what i read he got not too bad speed i'm going to guess maybe 4.6 to 4.8 not too sure cause they were saying he would be a rush DE.

Magnone is listed as a DL on the South roster for the Ohio North-South All Star game to be played, I think, on June 17.

Also listed on the North-South rosters are BG verbals Vince Corner and P. J. Mahone.

I don't have the Ohio High School Coaches Assoc. web site handy, but you can see the North-South game rosters on www.jjhuddle.com. Click on their high school football forums at the left of the home page.

By the way, the number of MAC recruits selected to play in this game is quite impressive, especially for Miami, Toledo, and BG.

I checked scout and saw the same thing. Marshall does show up as a 1-star safety there, but they have almost no information on him. No size/speed numbers, no articles. It lists BG as his only offer, with him also interested in all the Florida schools.

My Steubenville contact says A. Magnone is a great looking kid who had a tremendous year for their team. He says he would look for him to sign as a LB and stay there as he moves very well for a big (and tough) kid. Perhaps we thinking of him being in the middle or inside of our future LB corps.

Nothing but great reports from eastern OH on this new Falcon. Of course, we have to stay with all these 23 etc commits. Every year, other schools (usually BCS) try to steal several of our recruits over the last two plus weeks. I am sure we are doing everything we can with these players to keep them committed. Most young men will keep their word. But it is always a danger when a Big Ten etc school comes knocking late.

FF,

We now have 23 commits? Even the BG site (forgot the full name only lists 10 or so, and doesn't list the 2 kickers. Another site (OCSN) lists 11 commits.....are we keeping these kids a "secret", or do you know who all 23 are? Among others, I wondered what happened to the Maple Hts. WR who allegedly verballed pretty early in the season...haven't heard a thing since, and he's one who's never been listed, from the sites I've seen. Another thing I'd noticed, and again this is from the "unofficial" lists, is that we've only got FOUR kids from Ohio in the group of 10-11...The Steubenville kid would make 5, 3 of which are from NE Ohio, traditionally one of our recruiting "strongholds".

The university cannot comment on recruits until they sign a letter of intent. If the kids, their parents and or coaches wish to make their collegiate choice public knowledge prior to signing day, they may do so.

Flip,
I know that, but a solid number of 23 was posted, which means someone, i.e. FF?, has some info. on kids we haven't heard about. That's why I asked the question.

If these 3 latest defensive guys can be confirmed by someone, that means 19 of the 23 will indeed be known. This could be the first season that we could uncover all of the commits before NSD.

61, I don't want to mislead you. I assume we have or very nearly have the 23 approx. players we want/could get. I simply base this on the three latest commits from this weekend- the key "must have" punter, kicker and QB- and the three defensive guys I am told we have added.

I look at the 19 known names, add in the inevitable fact that there are a couple not uncovered by our many sources and knowing there is only one more true recruiting weekend left to add players (Jan 20) to "conclude" that essentially our class is complete or very nearly so.

I just am pointing out that I am sure we are busy trying to hold some of these key recruits and, likely, maintaining contact with a few other possible additions just in case. These "hold 'em" situations occur every year.

Is it possible to get a list of all the known athletes who have committed. It seems that when you look online, some are left off. It would be nice if someone with more insight and info than I could make a complete list of what we have so far! :D

Oh yeah and thanks in advance if this is possible!
