...and I have no intention of substantiating it in any way. I just saw this over at mht.com and found it...interesting.

I am interested to see what the scholars around here have to say about it. I've never heard mention of it before, and I'm too sick right now to do any of my own research.

I was just thinking that I should have added to this post that I most sincerely, truthfully, and desperately hope that the alleged implications of this story are not true. Yes, I hate Toledo, but I can't even fathom the thought that what this guy (I have no idea who he is or what he does) is alleging these types of things against a team who, although I despise, I have a considerable ammount of respect for, makes me almost sick to my stomach.

I guess what I was hoping for in posting this was that someone would tell me that the guy levelling these charges is a coke-fiend, or something.

Wow. We need to get a clip of this segment of the show. The "guy" is Billy Graham, former pro wrestler that used steroids for many years. On the show, he basically describes how steroids ruined his life down the life. He is very "real", going as far as to describe the high that steroids users feel while on a cycle. He openly admits that he still craves steroids at times, however, he firmly states that steroids ruined his long term health, and will most likely eventually take his life. The interesting part of all of it is, he clearly states that he visited Toledo university, and that the players of the football team banned from attending his lecture as a direct order from the coach. Unbelievable.

coke fiend or not, Billy Graham pointed the finger and put the heat on UT of all schools.

I have no idea if the story is true but think about it. If I show up at BG and say "Hey, I'm an expert in such and such a field that applies to your team and I want to speak to the team about it" does your coach have any obligation to let me? And if he doesn't does that somehow make him asuspicious character? No. Sounds a lot like sour grapes to me. "Your coach won't give me the opportunity for some free publicity so he should be fired." Give me a break. If you have evidence that someone is using illegal drugs have the cojones to present it to the authorities.

I would hope that every NCAA team in every sport gets information about steroids and other drugs as a formal part of their orientation to the team.

Superstar Graham has toured the country lecturing High School students on the dangers of anabolic steroid use. His perspective is that of a former user and abuser. I'm not sure why Toledo Fats wouldn't want his players to attend that type of lecture. It doesn't seem any more harmful than the average D.A.R.E lecture.

If this guy has been denied access to give his speech elsewhere too, though, I'm betting there might be more to the story which we don't know.

I don't blame any coach that doesn't want someone who made alot of money and is still living off of that money telling their players what to or not to do. Seriously, these kids are looking for ways to make money being in school, one of the biggest things on their mind. What do you think is going to stick more, the fact that because of the roids he was able to make a good amount of money and support himself, or some ailment somewhere down the road? Just because he was an idiot in the past doesn't qualify him to lecture others about not doing it. And as the post above this one states, there are already steps taken to discourage drug use. Right now I'm wondering how much he makes for these appearances.

I think context could play a big role in deciding how much "blame" to throw at 'Stutz.

*Was Graham a sponsored lecturer on campus (by a student organization, frat, or other group) and Amstutz said "do not go to this lecture on Tuesday night."

-OR-

*Was Graham "soliciting" his services to the football team (I.e. asking Amstutz to pay for his lecture and then arrange a time and place) and 'Stutz said no thank you?

In the grand scheme, not really that big of a deal.

I agree with Dayon on this one. You can't throw out accusations if you only got one side of the story.

I wondered the same thing, Dayon so I e-mailed "Superstar" via his website. Let's see if he responds....

Norm & Mark from the Ticket were teasing an interview with "Superstar" the other day on their show. I didn't hear it, so I can't tell you whether or not the issue with Amstutz was addressed or not? Perhaps Amstutz and Graham should throw on some tights and settle their differences with an old fasioned steel cage match!

Back in the day Amstutz was a wrestler going by the name of Vader.
