Brandon quotes

A couple of interesting things:

He says Sanderson, a DB who is the only recruit currently enrolled, will have a chance to start next season

Jahmal Brown will be used on defense. He didn't say if that was exclusively defense, but I'm glad to see one of our premier athletic recruits ending up on D.

Brandon seems happy with the defensive recruits, and I am too. We got some talented beef up front, and tons of speed in the LBs and DBs. Brandon said a lot of guys will have the opportunity to play right away. This is a 180 from last year's stance of not burning redshirts. I don't think that's good or bad, but rather related to the talent level of this year's squad vs. last year's.

He also says some of the back-end guys will be called upon to play STs.

We know the 2 kickers + sanderson will play as freshman. I would assume that Brown, Jackson, Young, and maybe a receiver or 2 will see PT this year. I wonder if only about half the class will redshirt?

We look to have recruited for need (we had a bunch), but still managed to pull in some very nice recruits. Hopefully they'll pan out well.

Sanderson is a JUCO player so he will be a junior next fall.

I'm not sure if I like this. First of all, he doesn't have great speed to play CB, and seems a lot more accomplished and scouted as a RB. I'll repeat the scouting report, found on ESPN.com. I hope this move wasn't done because of need. Let the guy do what he does best, run the football. Obviously, I may be totally wrong, based on that I've never seen him play.
Brown is a hardnosed, tough runner with great balance and a low center of gravity. He reminds us of former Syracuse running back James Mungro, only not as fast. He is low to the ground and shows excellence patience and vision to and through the hole. He is shifty and always keeps his legs churning and pumping. Breaks a lot of tackles and is tough to get a beat on. Looks like he is not moving very fast, but he is deceptive. He has decent elusiveness and good hip flexibility which allows him to move laterally very well to avoid tacklers. He has good hands and is an adequate receiver out of the backfield. The problem with Brown is that he lacks great speed and make you miss ability. He will come up with big runs and chunks of yardage where he breaks a lot of tackles and gain extra yards, but he is not going to be an explosive guy that is a threat to go the distance everytime he touches it. He is a solid competitor and good runner that is tough to bring down.

If he fails at CB, then they can just switch him back to RB. No biggie.

I think Brown is slated to play safety, not CB.

That makes it even more frustrating. Something to keep an eye on in the next couple of years.

Are you sure about that? On BG's website they have him listed as a Freshmen, and he was born in 1987, so there's no way he's a JUCO.

He went to prep school. Probably didn't have the grades or scores to get in, orignially.

He graduated from Long Branch HIGH SCHOOL in 2005. It looks like he played one year for Fork Union Military Academy which means that he would probably have at least three years of eligibility left.
