How do we make the leap from a kid being "intoxicated" (according to reports, and not necessarily "sloppy drunk") to "kids going out and getting sloppy drunk 3 times a week"???

As I've said, I agree that some things need to be pulled under better control, and for all we know, they have been. Or maybe they haven't been and that needs to be dealt with in the future. But right now, this argument is just getting assinine. We all know who backs the coaching staff and who doesn't, can we please let a thread or two go by without dragging people through the mud??

Oh yeah, I'm glad Eddie's going to be okay.

I fully support Pooch. This incident is pretty harmless, Eddie didnt break any laws, but I think if we want to improve this program the drinking should be addressed in some form by the staff or the athletic dept so everyone is on the same page and we can focus on winning some hockey games.

Ignoring things doesnt seem to work because thats exactly what we've done for 4 years and the problems continue (not including this incident)

People, you're arguing over apples and oranges right now.

IF he had broken a law or put a team policy in jeopardy, there might be a thread somewhere in there. But it was just some kid who happened to play hockey who got hurt. Who has never walked home drunk before? Better that than the headline "New BGSU Hockey Recruit Kills 4 People in Drunk Driving Accident." Give the kid a break; you don't even know what decision he HAD to make.

You're arguing about a problem, that in this particular case, doesn't exist. We don't know if he was sloppy drunk, and we don't know if he does it every night of weekend. What happened to giving people the benefit of the doubt? Wrong place at the wrong time?

There wouldn't be NEAR as much to-do about it on this board if he DIDN'T play hockey.

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse.

What makes you think the staff is ignoring things? That ISN'T happening, never has and never will. And you are in fantasy land if you think Red's boys aren't at house parties....

Just because you are 21 doesnt mean these kids should go out and get sloppy drunk 3 nights a week. A full scholarship to BG still means you have some responsibility to yourself and the program. I highly doubt Red Berenson's kids are out at Ziggys or a house party on friday night when they come into town.

I am not trying to bring back prohibition, but im saying atheletes should be held to a higher standard. If you want to booze wed-sat then quit the team.

Note that BG hoops players are not allowed to go to the bars during the season, yes they are in last place to but at least not in the police station.
With all due respect, the last thing we need is Scott Paluch to turn into a Dan Dakich-type who imposes so many rules and regulations that he kills the players' competitive spirit and makes playing not fun. That's not going to solve the hockey program's supposed issues, both on the ice and off.

Neville Not Intoxicated

Post by transfer2BGSU »

Well, the BG News made an error (can you believe that?). Of course, they blame the error on city police.

Bottom right of the front page, they run a correction that Neville was NOT intoxicated.

How big? Was it a typical "correction" (in a 2" x 2" box), or a column saying they f'ed up? Not that they convicted anyone of murder incorrectly, but we saw how quickly word of his "intoxication" turned into "another alcohol issue with the hockey team".

It's probably about 2x2.

Meanwhile, TG and I are doing little dances because we saw through it the whole time. :)

Little dances?

Nah, I'm just getting "intoxicated". Whether that's the BG News definition or the Webster's definition... I'll leave it up to your imaginations.
