This Forum Sucks

I certainly don't venture to this forum too often due to the aforementioned posters and their desire to say negative crap at every turn. Life is too short for that bullsht.
I read a thread and as soon as I see certain posters, I just close the thread. It's not a head in the sand mentality; I just know that thread has a 99% chance of going to hell-in-a-handbasket.
A shake-up may be in the future for several programs, but as a long-standing fan, I try to look for the positive. I want to support the players and the team and my alma mater. Sometimes I feel like a cubs fan and I suffer thru bad seasons, sometimes I feel like a yankees fan cheering for a contender year after year. Go figure...... this year may be a Cub's kinda year - it certainly was for football...... but I will still support the Falcons. AND I CAN"T WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR FOR FOOTBALL!!!!!!!
I remember reading a book about computers a few years ago. The author said he had spent the early part of his career trashing products that he did not like. He finally realized that life was too short and he wasn't doing his readership any favors by only talking about the negative products. He wanted people to get behind the better products and therefore changed his approach.
We have some really fine players. I want them to be successful. I tune in or show up for a game and cheer for BG. That's being a fan.
Funny thing about college sports..... players come, players go. Coaches come, coaches go....... we only remember the great players. I SAW George McPhee play and I will always remember him in a BG uniform. I SAW Ron Mason and Jerry York coach our teams. Same with Rob Blake, the Siggy's, You name them......... On the other hand...... I don't remember crap players who never contributed and never had a good thing to say about MY Falcons after they graduated.

I'm really glad we are having this conversation and are able to do so amicably. We're all frustrated, and no one is denying anything about what is going on. There is no need for harsh words or incessant repetition. Ganging up on each other isn't going to get us anywhere. In the end, we are all FALCONS, and there is no reason for anyone to claim "I'm in the fire Pooch camp," "I'm in the indifferent camp," or "I love Pooch and will go to the grave doing so!" We are all here because we LOVE Falcon Hockey. There is no need to use harsh words, disrespect certain people, or, more importantly, to try and drive people away from this board because they haven't conformed to a certain viewpoint as quickly as some may want them to. We ALL want what is best for this program, and, believe it or not, human beings are going to have varying opinions. We are all human, aren't we?bigdog wrote:I agree some of the way that people talk on here is disrepectful, however some people take it personally when there are a difference of opinion. Also others just get fustrated with stubburness of some people to change. There are a lot of us out there that just can't get how people see certain aspects that are killing BG hockey. Thats mostly where the harsh words come from.
This is why I'm getting frustrated. Points have been made, acknowledged and processed individually. It is clear that things are not going well right now, and things will work out how they will work out. Period. And yes, I am offended by this recurring "highlight tape" joke because, no matter how bad things are, there are a bunch of kids on the ice wearing the Burnt Orange and Seal Brown, and I don't believe they deserve to be ridiculed so obtrusively in a public forum. And, like it or not, for the time being, Scott Paluch is the head coach of the Falcon Hockey Team. You'll have to forgive me, but calling for his head over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again isn't getting anyone anywhere, and to see it ALL THE TIME is offensive to me and a lot of other people. That doesn't mean that we are ignoring anything, but rather, that we would like to see the position of head coach accorded a modicum of respect. Nothing more, nothing less.
Edit: double negatives are for communists

bigdog, I know Tech personally, and I can tell you that he is just frustrated. If you recall, I was saying some similar things about you when you first started posting, and I didn't mean them either. Like I've been saying, there is a LOT of frustration going on for all of us, and that manifests itself in different ways for different people. Believe me bigdog, whoever you are, Tech was there cheering you on throughout your career just as we all were. You have to understand, though, that it is hard to read this kind of stuff, especially with the attitudes that some have had around here. I'm not pointing any fingers, but there is blame to go around everywhere. There have been some pretty nasty things said about me in this very thread, too (not by you bigdog), but I've just ignored it. We need to become examples and make this place as great as it used to be (and not just for us "old timers"). If you and I can continue this exchange, I sincerely hope others will follow.bigdog wrote:well ya we were until Tech stepped in. Just goes to show you sometimes it is the posters that have been here for a while that trash talk too. Thanks a lot Tech, I was really enjoying being part of one of a few of my calmer conversations.

I hear what you're saying
It's not so much a matter of positive/negative, as much as trying to avoid repetition. The positions on the coach are obvious. The awful results are obvious. I'll try to limit my posts to either constructive opinions or questions and not simply pile on more of the same (like I did in the Same ole, same ole thread). Point taken.
First, I don't consider any of my comments necessarily negative. Just a statements concerning the gensis of this treat - that there is a lot of negativity on the forum. I personally respond by not reading certain threads or the comments of certain posters. I did not mention any names.bigdog wrote:well ya we were until Tech stepped in. Second, I being a Falcon Fan means there are up years (Yankee comparison) and down years (Cubs comparison). A tough, losing Football season is over. It wasn't much fun....... but I'll be back next year..... no matter who the players or coaches might be. Thats my point.
The last paragraph is what it means.... in college sports players are a very fluid entity. They are here for a few years then gone. Same with coaches. But the school and the various programs are constant. I am here to support Falcon sports. Our coach could be the Easter Bunny and the team could be the Keebler elves...... I'd be here supporting the team.
bigdog, you need to develop a thicker skin and shorter ears. Not everything (or in this case post) is about you. Lighten up and enjoy life.

So it is the repetition that is bothering you, well it bothers and frustrates me too! I am tired of losing every freaking game. I support the players and their effort, they work their but off every game with nothing to show for it. What I don't support is the same bad coaching decisions I have witness game after game.
For me I guess I am the kind of person that doesn't like excuses for a problem. and am not of the wait and see mentality. Although I feel we as FANS have waited long enough. The team and the coaches keep making the same errors over and over again, and to me that is a coaching problem. The locker room stuff aside, using the same bad powerplay, seeing the same bad defensive play by both offense and defense, is a coaching problem and I want it fixed.
You can be a FALCON FAN and support the team but not support the problem. And, whether the "old timers" like or not the FANS such as yourselves have the greatest impact of all, because they are the ones who buy the seats.

I have a clear enough understanding of who I am and what effect I can have on the decisions made by the President of the Univerity, the Athletic Director, the Board of Trustees, and wealthy alumni. Those people don't know me and I don't donate enough to effect anything, but my own tax return.blueliners_bg wrote:You can be a FALCON FAN and support the team but not support the problem. I am not Bob Sebo who can call up the President or the AD and say "We really need to turn this around. What the hell are you going to do about it! And how can I help?". There are things in life where I can make those types of phone calls. Did it just last week. I hate to inform everyone here......... I don't have the clout with BGSU, even though I have been formally recognized by the University for my professional accomplishments. That and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee.
Some people like to email the coach, the president, the AD, the lunch lady. Not me. Don't get me wrong, if I had the chance to talk to the coaches and AD personally - face to face - I would ask questions. That is only fair. Blind emails from a faceless alumni isn't for me.... but I am glad we have fans/almuni who do that.....
I am not happy when the Falcons stink up the MAC or the CCHA. But it happens. That's life and quite frankly, there are far more important things in my life than hockey and football. I will not lose sleep tonight because we got spanked by UNO...... but by God Scott Paluch better be up all night eating TUMS. But me, I will sleep like a baby.

The idea is not for you yourself to do alone. Just like no one player can do it on their own, unless they play singles tennis or are a long distance runner.
In that respect think of yourself as part of the team. And, when part of a team and the team believes they have the found a problem I would hope they would try to work WITH the team to try and fix or find the solution to that problem; not perpetuate the cycle by believing there is nothing they can do, and what happens happens.
It's not just this bad season it is repeated bad seasons with a few positives scattered here and there, people are tired of waiting.
The fact that there are repetitive posts about the same thing and the "fire the coach" thread is always at the top has to tell you there is a problem. And maybe you DO get that, but just letting things go does not help the players, the team, the university, the fans or Pooch.

Come on! How can there be anything positive when this team has lost eight games in a row? They have been outscored 42-8 in those games. I love my Falcons and always will but if anything sucks its this team. I think there are just alot of frustrated fans who can't believe our beloved Falcons are this bad.

There are two types of people.... Those who think they can do your job and those who let people do the job they were hired to do. As a professional, I am the latter.zerothehero wrote:Come on! The AD hired (or inherits in some cases) a group of coaches (football, basketball, hockey, soccer, you name it) to accomplish a task. Goals are set. At some point, the AD will determine whether those goals are being met in a timely manner. He may or may not be influenced by "fans and Alumni". Popular coaches get canned <coughing loudly....Bob Huggins.... coughing loudly> because they aren't meeting certain goals other than winning every game. Coaches remain even with losing records because they bring something intangible to the Instititue. <clearing throat loudly.... Joe Paterno...... clearing throat loudly>
My stance is simple. As a professional, I respect our AD. I respect his ablitiy to read the newspaper, watch and review the various programs, to have an intimate knowledge of what is happening in the various locker rooms and offices, and to make sound decisions that will advance our programs. I expect him to attend games to see and hear fan (client) feedback. I respect him enough to trust his judgement and feel confident that he can "pull the tirgger" and will fire non-performing coaches. From what I can tell from posters in the know, that he would just not renew contracts..... which is the cheapest way for a University with our limited resources to handle non-performing employees.
We all take the role of "fan" diifferently. I respect those who want to write emails to the AD every other hour. But that's not my style. I don't feel the need to tell a fellow professional that the hockey team sucks. I am pretty sure he knows that. Folks, its the large pachyderm sitting in the corner of the room. The AD sees it - I don't need to tell him.
If the team continues to do poorly, there is a good chance I won't head to BG to watch them this year..... unlikely, because the game is a backdrop to other things we do when we go to BG such as meeting friends.... but its possible.
"coaches get canned becuase of not meeting goals", don't you think that this record is falling just slightly below the standards, considering most of you thought they would be challenging for home ice.
Also how is the AD going to figure out what the dressing room issues are, he is only going to know what the coach tells him. this by the way is way different than reality

The AD see what is going on, he isn't blind to the situation on the ice. But, as far back as I can remember, BG had not fired a coach mid-season. Does anyone else remember this happening? The only person I can see coming close to this is Gary Blackney and he resigned but finished the season. As much as some in here may not like it unless Pooch steps down he will be the coach until the end of the season.bigdog wrote:"coaches get canned because of not meeting goals", don't you think that this record is falling just slightly below the standards, considering most of you thought they would be challenging for home ice.
How many tines does this need to be addressed? If things are that bad in the locker room, and I am not saying they are or are not, then the team needs to follow the channels set in place and let the AD know. They are not mutes. If there are players reading this then I challenge them to grow a pair, act like a team, and get the word out! All of you cannot be benched at the same time, and if it does happen it only makes your case stronger. But for the love of GOD do something as a team, PLEASE![/quote]Also how is the AD going to figure out what the dressing room issues are, he is only going to know what the coach tells him. this by the way is way different than reality

Well thanks for that wonderful analysis. Would you write my biography right now? You don't need to meet me I guess since you know everything about me.bigdog wrote:It is clear that you have never been part of a team with those comments. If you had you would realize that there are always a few who are scared or just dissagree. It doesn't work like that and the fact that you think it does just shows how little you acutally know.
What exactly about my comments do you disagree with? Maybe that will help me understand your point of view a little bit better. What is wrong with asking the team to stand up for themselves? If they do, and the coach tries to bench them all does that not strengthen their own claims? And name a BG coach who has been fired mid season in the last 15 years. I cannot think of one and asked if anyone else could.
