Special teams no help.

"Mavericks Blank BGSU, 7-0
Falcons shut out for seventh time this season.

Jan. 13, 2007

OMAHA, Neb. - The Bowling Green State University hockey team dropped a 7-0 decision Saturday night to Nebraska-Omaha inside the Qwest Center in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association contest.

UNO got on the board early, despite the heroics of sophomore Jimmy Spratt. The Mavericks skated in on a 2-on-1 just over a minute into the contest. A UNO forward fired a blast just inside the blueline with the rebound deflecting onto the tape of Jeric Agosta, who had an open net to shoot at. Spratt threw his right pad towards the net and shocked the UNO crowd with the save.

Less than 30 seconds later UNO deflected a shot past Spratt to take an early 1-0 advantage at the 1:43 mark. The Mavs extended their lead to 2-0 at the 9:35 mark with an even-strength goal.

Nebraska-Omaha scored three more goals in the second period and a pair in the third for the 7-0 final score.

For the game UNO held a 44-28 shot advantage and went 2-for-9 on the power play. Bowling Green was held scoreless on six attempts with the man-advantage.

As if a trip to Omaha, Nebraska isn't enough, the Orange and Brown hit the road again next week, for a pair of games with the Wildcats of Northern Michigan. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m. "

Yup. I think this has to be rock bottom. Can it really get much worse? Like I've said before, I've seen bad teams from a skill stand-point, but this is a team that looks like it mails it in a lot of games. The longer this fiasco continues, the smarter Bigdog and his cohorts look. I think Pooch is toast after this season (if we make it through this season).

And wrecking ball. When I saw the score, I thought that does it. No doubt the coach needs to go. I don't see how it can get any worse. This team has been outscored 19-1 in the last 4 games, shut out 3 games. Enough.

The hockey folks that know...fire Paluch and let an assistant take over for the rest of the year? Seriously. I don't want to see this team losing games 6-0, 8-0 for the rest of the season. 11 regular season games left. Any pride left anywhere? Stunning how bad the program is these days.

I'm sorry to see the program in such a dismal state of affairs.

Yes. At this point, let Paluch go and let Cole take over for the remainder of the season.

My patience is lost. Paluch has had ample opportunity to turn this around and at least show improvement. That has not happened for a host of reasons (attitude, recruiting, FUNDA-FREAKING-MENTALS, and leadership).

I said as much in the chat room last night. As a fellow Alumnus, I like Scott and really want him to succeed...........but somewhere else.

BGSU and Paluch are in a mutually bad situation. It's time for Scott to move on. It's time for BGSU to take AGGRESSIVE steps to righten the ship. A culture shift MUST happen at BGSU - and not from a fans' perspective. It needs to happen at the administration, coach, player, player alumni, and facility management level. Like I said, aggressive.

That's about as good and accurate statement as I've ever seen. It appears to me that hockey is at a crossroads in many different circles. I sincerely hope there wil be a SERIOUS attempt to make BG a hockey power again some day.
