More of the same? Are you kidding me? Ferris has been hot of late, and I think we played with them pretty damned well. Jimmy had 41 saves, to boot. More of the same? Whatever.
Great job tonight, Falcons! Get the W tomorrow!

bgbill you are correct.
The difference between winning and losing is doing the small things well, like keeping the pressure on Ferris.bgbill wrote:No fire on the ice tonight. Jimmy did do a good job, but the rest of the team weren't keeping constant pressure on FSU.
I don't know what it is about playing up here, but we seldom have good weekends in Big Rapids.

Moto
He wants to leave after this year but he might not be able to because of the type of season he is having. you never know what can happen in the off season but if he has the choice he will definately leave. He feels he should have left after last year. My guess is he will most likely leave.

Re: Moto
I understand that there is a lot that goes into that decision, but seriously where is he going to go? We see a lot of guys bolt BG for the ECHL, but I've seen more than my share of that league. It's a place where hockey players go to die. If he has a shot at the AHL, he probably ought to take it. But if he can do no better than "Double A" after this season, he might want to give it one last shot in college.freddiethefalconBG wrote:He wants to leave after this year but he might not be able to because of the type of season he is having. you never know what can happen in the off season but if he has the choice he will definately leave. I don't believe Matsumoto has any place to go. At best, he has been a marginal player in the CCHA and more importantly he seems not to have the strength to get around any of the defensemen he plays against.freddiethefalconBG wrote:He wants to leave after this year but he might not be able to because of the type of season he is having. you never know what can happen in the off season but if he has the choice he will definately leave. I concede that he could look better with a more efficient supporting cast, like last year.
Moto's problem is that he is not a leader and has been put in a leadership role. The weight of the "A" has affected his attitude and play.Last year he was better in a supporting role to Alex who was there to support him.
You all know my opinion of this team by now; I believe we have a collection of individuals who regard the team as less important than they are.
Recently, I was down at Miami and had the opportunity to talk to an assistant and some family members about the team who seemed to be having a "ball". Even while warming up and on the bench they were animated and upbeat. From what I heard there appears to be a policy by their coaches to "build" a confident team by treating each member as an integral part of the team.
For example: All four lines play regular shifts, all team members get the same treatment with regard to equipment (skates, sticks and so on), all players have a spot in the new locker room, they hang out together and extramural bad behavior, if any, is "uniformly" dealt with whoever you are and the result has been evident in the program.
Lake Superior have adopted a similar model and the have become a better team and more importantly the coaches are respected by their players.
BGSU has an uphill battle because the tone of any program comes from the Head Coach.

In all fairness, from listening to the broadcast, we had at least a couple ring off the pipes too.dannyk wrote:There is no way to sugar coat this. Our PP was absolutely terrible, and Ferris hit about 6 pipes, this game should have been alot worse.

Yeah we might have had two pipes but they had aound 6.
I dont think Matsumoto will have anywhere to play next year. Who would leave college to play dead end hocky in the ECHL, CHL, or UHL. If he was to leave he should have after last year. His stock this season has really dropped.
As someone mentioned, he is not a good one on one player which is what seperates players from ECHL to the AHL. I am suprised at how many of his weaknesses have been exposed this year. Im sure after last years good season, other teams have studied some tape and been able to funnel him wide on the rush which really limits his options because of his lack of strength in one on ones and his average passing ability.

It's really hard for any player to make a play when he is constantly being mugged, even without the puck. Standing at ice level allows you to see inside the game. Before he even has a chance to play the puck he has a hand or stick on him. The crackdown on obstruction seems to have looked the other way when it comes to certain players.dannyk wrote:Im sure after last years good season, other teams have studied some tape and been able to funnel him wide on the rush which really limits his options because of his lack of strength in one on ones and his average passing ability.
