Win or lose tonight, the end is near for BG college hockey this season. Oh I have great hopes to even the series tonight, then advance to the second round with a win on Sunday. But each day brings the season's end closer.
When BG bows out, I'll shift my interest over to Miami and try to catch their games through some sort of internet feed. I'll do the same for any CCHA team in the NCAA's, then watch the National Championship game on EPSN......... always hoping to see BG back in the hunt.
The end of BG's season results in nearly 5 months of no Falcon sports for me. Oh, I try to read about the Baseball team, but its BG Football, Basketball and more importantly, BGSU hockey that interest me the most. The sounds of the game will not fill the speakers attached to my computer until late August. The Chat Room will fall silent.
Oh sure, we'll all keep in touch through the various forums, but my Friday nights working late in the studio will not be the same. I look forward to the beginning of hockey season and I dread the end.
I'll try to fill my spring and summer with youth soccer and High School track. I try to catch the occasional baseball game, but the luster has worn off of my beloved Redlegs. The last strike killed it for me. Maybe the fire can burn again...... I don't know....... it's not BGSU Hockey.
So tonight, win or lose, we get closer to the end of another season of friendship and fellowship promising to get together again next school year, whether it's on campus at the game or in the Chat Room. God, how I love BGSU and I am so glad that 28 years ago when I walked onto campus the first time I immediately knew this was the place for me.
Thank you fellow Falcons.
GO ICERS!

That time of year

The end of the season is absolutely a sad time regardless of how the team did (barring a National title season of course).
This spring however, will be as crucial a time as any in the program's history. If BG is ever going to get to the point where Falcon hockey is competitive again, some big changes need to happen. This is the time to do it. I'm going to be paying attention.

Awesome post Tech!!! I feel the same way...once the hockey season is done...I am on "break" from BG sports for the most part. I have two things that I do to keep involved in hockey during the off season. I help the coaches plan and organize the Hockey Banquet (which will be March 31st; letters to be mailed next week for those of you who want to know) and the Alumni Community Golf Outing in the July. Doing those two things gives me something to look forward to as I wait for the next season to begin. Granted it's only two events, but my involvement with them helps fill the long off season void for me.
GO FALCON ICERS!!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
