Sad news!

Post by factman »

I was told yesterday that Yves Pelland died while working out at the gym. I am sure many of the "old timers" on the board remember Yves when he played, I believe in the late 70's. I think Buddy may have additional information. :(

Yves Pelland 1976 - 80
played with Markell, McPhee, MacLellan, Byron Shutt, Mark David, Luit, etc

Played in the 1978 team that many people feel was the best BG team ever.

In 1978 BG beat Colorado College NCAA qtr final @ BG; lost to BC in the final four,
beat Winsconsin it the NCAA Conolation game.

Fast skater, good hands, tremendous penalty killer.

When he got here his english was somewhat limited,
the joke that he started was that he was planning to major in either French or English.

Could the person who told about Yves meant this?

QUEBEC (CP) - Gaetan Duchesne, who played 14 seasons with five NHL teams, died while training at a gym Monday. He was 44. Sylvie Dallaire, co-owner of the gym in the suburban Ste-Foy district, said Duchesne was working out on a stationary bicycle at about 9:20 a.m. ET on Monday when he collapsed.

Efforts to resuscitate the former NHL forward, first by a gym employee and then by an ambulance crew, were unsuccessful, she said.

Reports said he apparently died of cardiac arrest, but the precise cause of death was not immediately known.

The native of Quebec was an eighth-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in 1981 and made the NHL club out of his first training camp, although he was later returned to the junior Quebec Remparts.

I apologize, I just thought it was odd that 2 French Candian Hockey players passed away so suddenly, almost at the same time, while working out a gym. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Yves was an amazing player and by all reports an even better man.
this is sad and my thoughts are with family, it is in my opinion far harder to loose someone fast and unexpectedly for those who were closest to them. that is at least it was for me.
I can still hear the "GO YVES" cheer that would fill the ice arena with incredible volume following the National Anthem before the puck dropped back in the day. While writing this and how that cheer had to have touched everyone who ever heard it, as it did me.

God Bless
