"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Nice idea, but having them on week nights doesn't work for me, unless the presentations don't start until 6PM or so.

I like the line at the end of the release - "Admission for each session is free. Sandwiches and beverages will be available for purchase." What the hell is this all about? Can't Christopher pull money from his budget to pay for the food? Why not provide it gratis, or provide drinks to those in attendance? Or is he just trying to avoid people getting food for free at the event, then not spending money at the game? Cheap skate!!!!

If he wants people to show up, then offer it for free and require people to RSVP or say that snacks will be available, but space is limited. This you are not over promising and under-delivering which is probably why they have it this way. Still CHEAP SKATE!!!

And the bottom line will be: "How much will YOU donate?" :-D

Far be it for me to come to the defense of the administration, but food and sandwiches are for sale before all the hockey games. They were probably trying to say " the meeting starts at 5:00, we want you at the meeting, you can get dinner here ".

Ok now for the other side of my brain. I have heard on this board that the administration is planning to sell $ 4 million of bonds
and fund raise from us another $ 4 million.
What are they planning to do for $8 mil ?
I heard that cleaning the exterior of the building is $ 80,000.
Will $ 8 mil be enough to do the basics and also the "frills" that we need to recruit the top recruits, some of which are swayed by frills.

They have talked about a $ 2.5 mil. Baseball/Softball facility, why not build those facilities into the ice arena. (Sure make it easier on Scooter)
What do you out there want the administration to do to the Ice Arena?

Miami raised $ 35 million, is $ 8 mil enough to help bring BGSU Hockey
back to where it belongs?

Miami put up a whole new facility.....we're renovating an existing facility. I imagine the cost difference is substantial. It has been said in the past that it will cost from 1 to 2 mil to fix the current problems (roof, compressor, lighting, etc.) most of which would be invisible to anyone visiting the place. That leave 6 to 7 mil for the other, more visible, improvements (including the exterior). I don't know about you, but I could do quite a bit with that amount.....replace the bench seating with chair-backs, upgrade the skate shop (desperately needed....that place is a joke), put in some luxury boxes, expand the press box, etc.

People have been bitching about the facility for years and they're finally doing something about it. My advice is, be happy about it! If you want to give them more so they can do more then you're more than welcome to do so. Matching the 4 million is just a goal....nobody said that it has to stop there.

I put a greater weight on redoing the press box than putting in luxury boxes. I realize that luxury boxes are a potential source of revenue, but they need to be sold, otherwise they're just a bunch of pretty, empty space. It irks me to go to games at different arenas and see empty luxury boxes, especially if the facility has a press box the size of a sardine can.
Of course, I might be biased on this one...

At any rate, I am glad to see that the Ice Arena finally seems to be in line for something other than small, cosmetic improvements. It irritates me to see things like new turf for football while the Ice Arena has compressors that are older than I am. Don't get me wrong: the new turf is pretty. But if you want to get down to brass tacks, football can be played on grass but hockey can't be played without ice.* I think that the natural surface probably would have lasted longer than those ice compressors will hold out.

These are merely opinions.

* Yes. I know football brings in more revenue than hockey, which is always what I get told when I claim that football gets all the money for upgrades and improvements, usually at the expense of other programs. This does not change the fact that I feel both the Ice Arena and Anderson needed help before football got turf.

** Not D'Arcy McConvey. I just stole his name.

Wow. If you could have just summoned up some tears about halfway through, you could run for the Democratic nomination!

Yes well, I have thousands of ideas for the Ice Arena. BGSU just can't afford them

I won't be able to make either game this weekend (judging a speech tournament up in Sylvania). This is just my guess of what we'll see in terms of renovations to the Barn:

- Press box completely re-done to add another row thus doubling the size. A couple rows of seating will have to be removed to make room.
- Numerous new locker rooms are built on the east-side of the arena to allow for more tournaments, games, etc.
- "Premium seating" area will be renovated to add chairs people will actually want to sit in. Bench seating will be replaced as well, possibly with new bench seating with backs.
- 2-4 luxury boxes in the south end above the Zamboni room and skate shop. Area below is completely renovated to expand both the shop and Zamboni room.

If anyone who's going could give us a nice detailed recap, I'd definitely appreciate it.

I asked the AD if there would be hand out material.
His response:
" glad that you can make it. We will have an FAQ sheet that will be
available. Look forward to seeing you. Regards, Greg "
