I kind of like the shootouts...I think they are exciting and are a good way to make sure that A) There are no ties and B) Games don't go 4, 5 or 6 overtimes. I hate ties, draws or whatever you want to call them so anything that eliminates them is fine by me!

The Committee continues to desire more scoring.
What's the signal for slew-footing?

The games wouldn't go 4, 5 or 6 overtimes in the regular season anyway. And if you don't like a 5 overtime playoff game, I'm not sure you're a hockey fan.VDub26Falcon wrote:I kind of like the shootouts...I think they are exciting and are a good way to make sure that A) There are no ties and B) Games don't go 4, 5 or 6 overtimes. Ah, from the tie-hating standpoint, that makes sense.VDub26Falcon wrote:I love multiple overtimes in the playoffs...my point was that if you wanted to eliminate ties in the regular season, the only efficient way to do so is a shootout.
I think the shootout has been great, and anything that gives the IA a chance to start rockin' at the end of a tie game is a plus for me.

First off, Soccer is not a sport...second off, then why not have hockey go unlimited 20 minute overtimes? Baseball goes unlimited innings, Basketball has unlimited OT's, football needs to institute something to eliminate the possibility of a tie. Find someway to eliminate ties and I'll be happy.rood wrote:Shoot-outs are an abomination. Can you imagine other sports doing something similar (yes, I know soccer already does)? Basketball settling ties with freethrows, football can do field goals and baseball holding a home run derby after the tenth inning. I would rather have a tie than a shootout.

Isn't NCAA football overtime analogous to a shoot-out? Each team gets the ball artificially close to the goal line with a chance to score.rood wrote:Shoot-outs are an abomination. It is an interesting debate. I think from the fans point of view, it is a good thing. It is always exciting to end a game with a shootout. From a player and team perspective, it seems a lot of it is luck in terms of who gets the extra point. I'm not sure that I would like it if I was a player or coach. I just don't think you should get an extra point because your team is better at no pressure breakaways.

Agreed. The 25 yard line is too close, IMO>VDub26Falcon wrote:It's my opinion that they should move the ball back to the 40...out of Field Goal range...granted, the 25 was out of field goal range for BG a few years ago. I think some work should have to be done to get into field goal range.

ccha adopts shootout for 08-09
"FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Courtesy of the CCHA) - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that an NHL style three-player shootout will be used in the 2008-09 season to determine a winner for all of the 168 regular-season conference games that are tied after 60 minutes of regulation play and five minutes of overtime."

See, I don't like shootouts.Drago wrote:It is an interesting debate. I think from the fans point of view, it is a good thing. It is always exciting to end a game with a shootout. Sure they were novel when they first came about, but after 10 or so, they get boring to watch.
Also, if the game is tied with about 5 mins left in regulation, both teams seem to play for the shootout and not the win. This, imo, makes for incredibly boring hockey.
