But with college overtime, the entire team participates. It's not 1 on 1.Jacobs4Heisman wrote: Punt pass and kick would be lame, but that's nowhere near a decent analogy. College overtime would be the better analogy, and I love college overtime.
I've been saying all year that our guys are the toughest in the league. Apparently, that also spills over into other leagues now too. No matter how many times they get hit from behind into the boards (Sexton at least once, Solway twice) they get up and keep going. Yet a legal hip check will send a Minnesota State player to the ice until a penalty is called.
For what it's worth (nothing right now obviously) Sexton's face was the first part of his body to hit the boards Friday night. Near the end of the 2nd period. The call was 2 minutes for boarding.NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Rule Book wrote:Hitting From Behind
SECTION 23. a. A player shall not push, charge, cross-check or body check
an opponent from behind in open ice.
PENALTY—Minor or major at the discretion of the referee.
b. Hitting from behind into the side boards, end boards or goal cage is a
flagrant violation.
PENALTY—Major and game misconduct or disqualification at the
discretion of the referee.

How many rounds are in a shootout again?pdt1081 wrote:But with college overtime, the entire team participates. It's not 1 on 1.Jacobs4Heisman wrote: Punt pass and kick would be lame, but that's nowhere near a decent analogy. College overtime would be the better analogy, and I love college overtime.
Should we outlaw single coverage on the outside in Football? No more isolation plays in basketball either - 1 on 1 play is no good.
If a breakaway happens in the middle of the third period, do the refs blow the whistle for a faceoff? "No fair guys, the rest of the team should be in on this." You can say somebody else on the team probably did something to set up that breakaway, but that's not always the case. A slap shot could hit a skate as a guy is coming out of the box.
One could also argue there's nothing more pure in the game of hockey than a breakaway. Nothing but a puckhandler vs. a goalie - Better man wins.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating.
I hate the shootout. The first five or so were interesting, but after that gets stale quickly. And after it becomes a fixture, late in the third the teams start playing for the shootout rather than the win.
Eliminate the shootout. Ties are fine in the regular season. And in the playoffs, 20 mins overtimes until its decided.
But my opinion never counts for anything...

I thought Bailen did a great job of stepping up his game in response to the ice time he gained from Maxwell leaving. He threw more hits and jumped into the play more on Saturday night than in all the other games I've seen so far this year. I noticed he was the one who thought to go get the puck for Page after Kyle scored his first college goal.
Kantola seems to be playing better with Boyd than he did with Cepis and Perkin. Hopefully that will get them more ice time and spread out the attack.
I wasn't there on Friday night and Saturday's game was closer than the score seems. That string of penalties really sucked the energy out of the team.

That's what happens when you only use 8 guys to kill penalties.rood wrote:I thought Bailen did a great job of stepping up his game in response to the ice time he gained from Maxwell leaving. I think you captured it very well.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:People act like they're determining the winner by holding a sack race or something.
No. Why not call it a tie and play another day?You guys really want teams to have the potential to play a couple of extra periods on Friday night and then come back and play Saturday?

Even though this discussion is getting completely off topic, but
I can see both sides of this. Ties really aren't that bad. ESPECIALLY in hockey. One point is a hellova lot better than no points. Now in football or basketball, ties make no sense, as standings aren't decided by points. But hockey can handle ties. And I agree that for college kids, ties should be the way to go. In the pros, I think OT and shootouts are fine, I mean they get paid don't they?!?

no respect for BG
I keep telling myself that polls don't mean anything, but this makes no sense to me...
Minnesota State gets a win and a tie in OUR building, and they drop from #10 to #11.
Notre Dame gets a win and a tie at HOME against Western Michigan and they climb from #2 to #1
