What a Crowd!
What a Crowd!
Going into the game tonight I could have sworn that this was going to be a sparse at best crowd. However, at game time, I could not have been much happier. From the band perspective crowd interaction is usually little or nothing. I don't know what happened but tonight everything the band seemed to play was exactly what people wanted to hear (kudos may be in order to the GA). From the fan perspective, that game was a blast to be at. I just finished complaining about how boring our sporting events are yesterday and then we have an awesome game like tonight's. The entire arena was involved in the game and the NOISE was awesome. Not the biggest crowd but it was a great one. And the students were good! only thing I wish we could have done better is getting on top of WR. WILSON!

I'll admit, I've never been a real big fan of the band at the hockey games. Just never really seemed like they belonged there and were more of a formality. That said, I thought the band did a GREAT job last night. For the first time I can remember they actually sounded loud even where I was standing, which is about as far from them as possible. Great Job!Tech83 wrote:Listening online last night... the crowd and the band sounded awesome. We were commenting as such in the chat room.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

+1. I always sit in the general area of the band, which is obviously my own fault, and I can't even hear myself think whenever they play, let alone talk to anyone. Even if they cut the band in half it'd be a lot better. Then again I guess they do add to the atmosphere of the whole game.pdt1081 wrote:I'll admit, I've never been a real big fan of the band at the hockey games. As much as the band forces me to yell in the student section, I absolutely love them. They give everyone so much energy and I feel like during the games at the beginning of the season it seems so much quieter in there. I love the entire atmosphere, especially last night. It was fun and I was looking around and I saw a lot of people doing the same cheers as the students, especially when the other team got a penalty. It was a great game.

I think you might've taken my comment the wrong way. Usually we can't hear the band where we are. It seems louder is better at this point.DWhite21 wrote: +1. Well then I need to move to wherever you're sitting. Screaming doesn't even work a lot of times when trying to communicate from where I sit.pdt1081 wrote:I think you might've taken my comment the wrong way. Usually we can't hear the band where we are. Let's get the sweep tonight.
Last season the band was literally half the size it is this season. The athletic department felt it wasn't loud enough for the ice arena so we expanded the ranks and have three different bands this year instead of two. On rotation, one band will play for hoops, and two bands will combine for hockey games.

Actually, from what I understand, the band(s) that play for the hockey games are only a little bit bigger than what it was last year. The three separate bands we have now I believe are roughly half the size of what they were last year, which explains why we have three this year. It was done because the Athletic Department didn't want as big of a band at the basketball games but still were wanting the big size at the hockey games. The Niz wrote:Last season the band was literally half the size it is this season.
