It's veiled but I think he is definitely saying that supporting (and not cutting) a DI hockey team is the right decision despite the current economic times.

I don't think there are any hockey coaches that want to see more programs cut. It means less competition, and, though all coaches want to win, they want to play high quality opponents even more because they love great hockey. That's why there are efforts to get programs like Bemidji and UAH into conferences so they can survive, and encourage other schools to start up their own DI hockey programs.
