I don't see how Miami winning that game because they are in CCHA can benefit BG. It would make the league look good sure, but who really cares? Next season it all starts over again anyway, so I don't see how Miami winning could've remotely helped us. I'm more concerned with BG looking good than the CCHA looking good.
"Rooting for a conference" sucks. I never want our rivals to win unless it can directly help us, and I was thrilled Miami lost and more thrilled they choked so hard. I don't like them because they are a conference rival. There's also only one Ohio school to win a National Title in hockey, and it sure as s**t ain't Ohio State. I like still having that intact too.
The worst offenders of "rooting for a conference" are Big Ten football fans, who are so insecure about Ohio State's annual ass-whipping on the national stage in BCS games that they actually root for each other against non-conference teams. Screw that! Your rivals are your rivals for a reason...
Feels good to get that off my chest.
When the alternative is BU?
F*** that.
There are only two teams in college hockey that I hate more than BU and Miami isn't one of those two.
Actually, I was pulling for Bemidji. Then Miami. Then Vermont. ANYBODY but BU.

I can see this mindset for one of the power conferences like the CCHA; however, in a conference such as the MAC pulling for a conference win DOES directly effect the perception of member schools.
If you don't believe me, please look to the "MAC Attack" of 2003 and how much of a net positive resulted.

Three MAC schools have hockey, basketball, and football.
The success of Miami should show BGSU and their trustees that it is a worthwhile investment given the dollars and pride that can result from a national championship. BG can say to everyone else, we are a similar size school, from ohio, with similar intentions. With a facility like Miami we can compete just like them against the biggest and best in the nation. If BG doesn't get a new facility soon, they may never be able to compete again with every other program in the country investing in state of the art, professional quality buildings.
I never followed college hockey until I enrolled at BG, so they're the only team I like, and the only teams I dislkike are the 11 others in the CCHA. I was generally indifferent about BU, and against Miami.
Certainly I agree that if the reputation of the CCHA and schools with similar athletic departments to BG grows, it may help BG's reputation as well, but rooting for a conference just always seemed weird to me.
What ever happened to good ol' fahsioned hate? Certainly an interesting discussion though.
Hate away... I never root for conference opponents unless I hate the team they are playing more... hence I don't root for Notre Dame in any sport.
I think for the moment and the state of BG hockey... you want Miami to succeed so that this sport isn't looked at as a vampire on the athletic department and no good will come of it. Support Now... hate later.

Which is why I think last night was the best of both worlds. Miami(OH) being 60 seconds (or even 17) from a National Championship shows that MAC/CCHA schools CAN do it.
Meanwhile, having BU storm back and make Redskinhawks miserable is fine by me, too.

Miami is soon to have a few more guys in the pros... I saw a few top 5 round picks of the redhawks that are playing in the championship game tonight.
Well actually Miami has 1 Will Weber a 2nd rounder respectively. They do have 3 or 4 6th and 7th
BU on the other hand has a ton Colin Wison 1st, Shattenkirck 1st, Cohen 2nd, Trivino 2nd, Strait 3rd, Gryba 3rd, Warsfoski 4th, Saponari 4th this doesn't even include Hobey winnwe Matt Gilroy
